Creating a culture of Blessing IV
Here at Mokuaikaua we are about Creating a Culture of Blessing.
We believe this is God’s mission for our church.
201 years ago a group of missionaries arrived here in Kailua Kona in response to the invitation and prayers of two young men from Hawaii, Henry Opukahai’a and Thomas Hopu.
On April 4 1820, our beloved church Mokuaikaua was founded, Rev Asa Thurston after meeting with the King Kamehameha, and the Queen Regent Kaahumanu, they gave them permission to start churches and schools, King Kamehameha the second Liho-Liho gave his house and canoe house to be the first church and school.
The missionaries came to Hawaii to fulfill the great commission to preach the gospel, baptize them, and disciple them to obey everything Jesus thought us.
Mokuaikaua is committed to carry out this inheritance, April 1820 also marked the beginning of one of the greatest revivals in history, 97% of the population of Hawaii came to Christ, by 1840 Hawaii had the largest church in the world, Haili church in Hilo, a church with 11thousand members.
The aim of a culture of blessing, is to reach out others is to be a blessing not only to our congregation but to all who come across our path.
To create A culture of blessing we need the Holy Spirit in our midst, and we need to know Him as a close friend.
My prayer this morning is that we would have a fresh revelation of the Holy Spirit, that we renew our commitment to Him to be His close friend.
Let’s pray!
God’s Holy Spirit.

1 He Desires to have a relationship with us.

The Holy Spirit is part of the God head, the trinity, Father Son and Holy Spirit, the God Head was together, in perfect unity before the creation of the world.
Gen 1:2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness wason the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
God’s plan after sending Jesus to save the world, is for us to be reconcile to Hm, to have an intimate relationship with His sons and daughters.
Jesus introduces the Holy Spirit this way.
Joh 16:7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor--Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].
Relationship and Intimacy comes with a commitment, when we welcome the Holy Spirit into our lives we need to make sure we are ready to commit to Him, He is Holy, He is not forceful, He is a gentleman, if you resist Him, He will give you space, when He speaks and we don’t listen He will go quiet, when we grieve Him, He will wait until we desire to please Him, He will leave you alone.
Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Don’t make him sad, in a relationship we want to bring happiness and joy to the one we love, not sadness or grief. We need to respect, follow, and obey the Holy Spirit.
When we have a relationship with the Holy Spirit, He will give us the power to overcome sin, he will set us free from our addictions, empower us to overcome evil, is so difficult to stay away from Him, you will miss him desperately, you will feel this painful whole in your soul every time you displease Him, is a delicate relationship, it will cost everything we have, but He will also give you everything He has.
Wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, the fear of the Lord.
Isa 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
We need to take Him seriously, He is our friend.
Gal 4:6 And because you [really] are [His] sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying out, "Abba! Father!"

2 The Holy Spirit is the power of God,

He came to empower us.
Act 1:8 But you will receive power andability when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be My witnesses[to tell people about Me] both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and even to the ends of the earth."
The Holy Spirit will empower us to be Jesus witnesses but also to do greater works than Jesus did
Joh 14:12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
Joh 14:13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
Then he goes and introduces the Holy Spirit
Loren Cunningham is one of my hero’s of the faith, the way he has allow the Holy Sprit to empower and guide him has impressed me for the past 43 years since I met them for the first time, Loren and his wife Darlene are the founders of
Youth With A Mission (“YWAM”) is one of the largest missionary organizations in the world. YWAM was founded in 1960, Loren and Darlene Cunningham wanted to get young people involved in missions. Today, YWAM's staff of more than 18,000 come from over 130 countries to work at over 1,100 locations in more than 180 countries.
Millions from around the world have come to Christ and were blessed by Ywam, I hear from many parents who had no hope for their children and God used YWAM to restore their lives, to allow them to grow in Jesus, YWAM is not perfect, but many working with them are allowing the Holy Spirit to use them. Are you?

3 The fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.

The Greek word for fruit is Karpos which literally means the produce of a tree. Is what we find in the life of a believer that walks in the Spirit.
Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Gal 5:23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
The fruit of the Spirit is the result of His presence in our lives, if we walk with Him, we will see the fruit. The fruit comes out of a relationship out of intimacy.
The love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, are all a supernatural fruit, we can’t work hard in developing it, or discipline ourselves to do it, if the fruit is not there when we need it, we don’t have it.
There are many people who claim to be Christians, because they grew up in a church, or their parents are Christians, if the fruit of the Spirit is not evident in their lives, they need to question their salvation, surrendered lives and humility will help us to see.
Ex I remember this 90-year-old man in our older church in Kohala, he was always, kind, gentle, patient, joyful, he loved God, people like him don’t need to convince anyone that they are Christians, is evident.
We also receive gifts of the Spirit
The Greek word for gift is charisma which means a free gift.
A Miraculous manifestation of the Sprit, to bless others, tools we are given by the spirit.
1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
1Co 12:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
1Co 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,
1Co 12:10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
1Co 12:11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
Use the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit to bless those around you, you will experience the fruit but the gifts are for others
Gal 5:24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.
Gal 5:25 If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage--our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit].
We need a deeper revelation about The Spirit of God, who desires an intimate relationship with us, wants to empower us, and bless us with the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.
begins when we make Jesus the Lord of our lives.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Joh 3:16
