Romans 15, 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
James 5, 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
I. The Prophet Condemned the Wicked King
a. The place involved, vv. 17-18.
b. The punishment included, vv. 19-24.
Galatians 6, 7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Three-fold condemnation:
1) I Kings 22:37-38, Ahab.
2) 2 Kings 9:33-37, Jezebel.
3) 2 Kings 10:6-11, Ahab’s family.
c. The penitence involved, vv. 25-29.
Ezekiel 33, 11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
2 Peter 3, 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
