Genesis 3:1-11 New King James Version
Do you ever feel guilty over things you have done in your past? Does that make you feel unworthy to serve God?
Two Truths
1. Satan is the encourager and accuser of sin (Genesis 3:1-11; Revelation 12:10).
2. God is our justifier and Jesus is our intercessor (Romans 8:33-34; Romans 8:1).
Zechariah 3:1-10
Zechariah 3:1
1. Joshua the high priest – representing humankind
a. Joshua – The Lord Saves
2. The Angel of the Lord – a preincarnate appearance of Jesus (called the Lord in v.2)
3. Satan – adversary/to oppose him; standing at this right hand (the place of the prosecuting attorney.
a. Psalm 109:6 Set a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand.
Zechariah 3:2
1. The Lord rebuke you, Satan
2. Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?
Zechariah 3:3
1. Clothed with filthy garments – soiled, excrement
a. Self-righteousness is as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
i. Isaiah 64:6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
Zechariah 3:4
1. Take away the filthy garments from him/see, I have removed your iniquity from you.
2. I will clothe you with rich clothes – costly, pure, glorious, and festive
a. Revelation 19:8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Zechariah 3:5
1. Let them put a clean turban on his head (Exodus 39:30-31).
a. Exodus 39:30 Then they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote on it an inscription like the engraving of a signet: HOLINESS TO THE LORD
b. Exodus 39:31 And they tied to it a blue cord, to fasten it above on the turban, as the Lordhad commanded Moses.
i. To be holy means to be set apart from sin for God’s purpose.
2. The Angel of the Lord stood by (approvingly).
Zechariah 3:6-7
1. If you will walk in My ways/if you will keep My command
2. Then you shall…judge/lead My house, I will give you places to walk among those who stand here
Zechariah 3:8
1. Joshua is a sign or a symbol of what is to come.
2. I am bringing forth My Servant the BRANCH.
3. What is being illustrated in Zechariah will one day be reality when Jesus comes.
a. The BRANCH is a messianic name for Jesus (Jeremiah 33:15).
i. Jeremiah 33:15 ‘In those days and at that time I will cause to grow up to David A Branch of righteousness; He shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
Zechariah 3:9
1. The stone – Jesus (1 Peter 2:4, 6-7).
2. Seven eyes – all knowing
a. "These seven are the eyes of the LORD, which range through the whole earth" (Zechariah 4:10).
3. Engrave its inscription – the scars upon Jesus which sealed salvation for us and make Him beautiful in our eyes.
a. John 20:26-28
4. I will remove the iniquity of the land in one day – at the Cross (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Zechariah 3:10
1. Eternal blessing, peace and prosperity.
