2 Corinthians 11:1–3 (NKJV)
1 Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me.
2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste [pure] virgin to Christ.
3 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ..
The enemy when he wants to create hostility between us and God, he will come after our mind to corrupt it.
I looked at other translations of this passage (verse 3) and noticed that all the other translation except KJV and NKJV render this verse a little differently with one important addition
2 Corinthians 11:3 (ASV 1901)
3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity and the purity that is toward Christ.
We have to realise that we have an enemy, who sole purpose is to separate us from God.
he begins by first corrupting our minds by his craftiness
Crafty is a word that is used to describe someone who is wise or clever but not in a good way. In other words, Satan is wise and clever but his wisdom is corrupted and produces corruption.
We must not underesitmate our enemy.
The serpent is introduced to us in Genesis 3 but his story goes way back before creation.
When we examine how he fell from being one of the three chief angels, we will see where he got is craftiness.
Satan is the source of all corruption.
Ezekiel 28:11–17 (NKJV)
11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
12 “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.
16 “By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones.
17 “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you.
Godcreated the Angel whom we call the devil, full of wisdom.
To attain God’s splendor he corrupted his wisdom. He tried to use this corrupted wisdom to attain to God splender as well as corrupt the mind of 1/3 of the holy angels and cause them to rebel againts God.
Think how satan, by his craftiness (corrupt) wisdom was wable to corrupt 1/3 of the angels in Heaven (according to revelation). This were holy angels, they fell into rbellion by the craftiness of satan.
Let us not underestimate the enemy. He would like nothing but for you to underestimate him.
In the garden of Eden
Speak of how it was like for eve and Adam to dwell in the presence of God, becuase of the simplicity and purety of mind they had toward him.
They enoyed the presence of God, they received his word and were obedient to it without doubting or questioning it. They believed with all their heart that God’s command was for their own good and God never meant ill by keeping them away from that tree until the corrupter came.
Genesis 3:1–6 (NKJV)
1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.
5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
His corruoted wisdom corruoted her mind and she no longer saw the words of God with purity and simplicity of the mind
He corrupted her pure and simple mind and made her to rebel by rejecting the word of God.
They enemy always uses the same tactics and that is corrupting our simple and pure minds to the things of God
Has your mind been corrupted.
Whenever God Speaks, the enemy is there speaking words to corrupt our minds from the simplicity and purity of God’s word. Seeking to keep us from submitting to the words of God.
When God speaks, the enemy will be there seeking to pervert what God has spoken.
Acts 13:6–12 (NKJV)
6 Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus,
7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
8 But Elymas [Elumas] the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
9 Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him
10 and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?
11 And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.
12 Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.
Sergious Paulus wanted to hear the word of God.
There was a man, a child of the devil, as Paul called him, to corrupt his mind from the simplicty and purity of God’s Word. He was there to pervert in the mind of Sergious Paulus the straight way of the Lord.
Whenever the Word of the Lord is being preached there is a spirit of pervertion, trying to pervert what God is speaking in the minds of the hearers.
Job 1:6 NKJV
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them.
Satan is here today, trying to pervert what is being preached in the minds of those who are open to it.
Ephesians 4:27 (NKJV)
27 nor give place to the devil.
The question is, who are you going to listen too?
Proverbs 17:4 NKJV
4 An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.
The enemy knows the power of the Preaching the word
1 Corinthians 1:21 KJV 1900
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
The preaching of the word of God has power to save,
He will try two things to try to stop the word.
1. He will try to silence the preacher
The enemy tried to silence Paul so Jesus came to him at night and said: Acts 18:9 “9 Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent;”
2. He will corrupt the mind of the hearer so as not to receive the word as the word of God.
Amos 7:10–17 (NKJV)
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words.
11 For thus Amos has said: ‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword, And Israel shall surely be led away captive From their own land.’ ”
12 Then Amaziah said to Amos: “Go, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah. There eat bread, And there prophesy.
13 But never again prophesy at Bethel, For it is the king’s sanctuary, And it is the royal residence.”
14 Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah: “I was no prophet, Nor was I a son of a prophet, But I was a sheepbreeder And a tender of sycamore fruit.
15 Then the Lord took me as I followed the flock, And the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’
16 Now therefore, hear the word of the Lord: You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel, And do not spout against the house of Isaac.’
17 “Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city; Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword; Your land shall be divided by survey line; You shall die in a defiled land; And Israel shall surely be led away captive From his own land.’ ”
Amaziah was trying to pervert the words of the Lord in the ears of king Jereboam by telling him that Not God but Amos is saying this words because he is conspiring againts you.
Amaziah turned the words of God to the words of a man.
Satan will try to preach into your ears and mind and say the preacher is conspiring against you.Why because he wants to keep you from receiveing the word that is able to save you.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV
13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.
The amazing woman in our Bible.
Mark 7:24–30 (NKJV)
24 From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden.
25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet.
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.
27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
28 And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”
30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.
In Matthew’s account, Jesus first ignored her. The desciples had to beg him to send her away. She was an embarasment to everybody.
This woman, Though Jesus called her a dog, she did not allow the enemy to corrupt her mind and see the words of Jesus in a negative light. But Siad Yes and Amen, it is true.
For her saying she received what she wanted.
Receive the word of God in meekness, dont let the enemy corruot your mind so that you will be offended at the words of the Lord.
James 1:21 NKJV
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
Once your minds has been defiled, you always see things in a corrupted way
Titus 1:15 (NKJV)
15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.
Dont let your mind be corrupted.
The enemy uses the same scheme to cause division and hostility between friends.
As he corrupts our minds towards the things of God, He also will corrupt our minds towards our brothers and sisters
Proverbs 16:28 NKJV
28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends.
Whisperer is another worder for gossper, or someone who spreads lies.
But for the purpose of todays message, this refers to the chifest of whisperers, satan himself.
2 Samuel 10:1–6 (NKJV)
1 It happened after this that the king of the people of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
2 Then David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David’s servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.
3 And the princes of the people of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Has David not rather sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”
4 Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off half of their beards, cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 When they told David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, the people of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand foot soldiers; and from the king of Maacah one thousand men, and from Ish-Tob twelve thousand men.
David intents was to show kindness
But the whisperers, twist the action of David in the eyes of Hanun to be an act of subotage.
1 Peter 1:22 NKJV
22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,
You have to love your brother fervently with a pure heart.
If you love your brother, you will not allow your heart to be corrupted towards him, you will not be offended by him.
