Introduction
This morning we look at humility coming from God and exercised with our fellow man.
This evening I want to think about humility in our own minds, and imposter to humility, and finally, our perfect example of humility.
Ordinary Lives
Ordinary Lives
Who’s image are you cultivating?
We live in a world of promotion of self-image.
People are developing “brands” and trying to be “influencers”.
Our approach to life is going to be very different than the world’s (Rom. 12:2-3).
We need to be able to live lives that go unnoticed by the masses (Matt. 6:1-18; 23:8-12; Lk. 14:10-11).
Let others praise you…or not (Prov. 27:2).
Bold Humility
Bold Humility
Timidity and humility are not the same thing.
Godly boldness will be accused of arrogance (1 Sam. 17:28).
Humility is part of worship (2 Chron. 30:10-11).
We think the mockers are the humble and the worshipers the arrogant.
They are humble before their true God, the praise of men.
We are simply choosing who to humble ourselves before.
The Humility of Christ
The Humility of Christ
The humility is that God became man (Phil. 2:7).
His humility was not imposed, but rather it was embraced (Phil. 2:8).
Obedience is humility (Phil. 2:8).
The humility extends to silently accepting ultimate punishment for sins he did not commit (Phil. 2:8).
Conclusion
Conclusion
Are you humble? Tricky question that.
Do you suppose people would describe you as humble?
We talk about being saved by grace, or faith, or through baptism, but rarely do we speak of humility in salvation terms. Yet it is at the heart of all the rest.
