다른 복음은 없다 There is no different gospel.

도입

- It’s a long time after we met through sermon.

- For the last a few weeks, we had baptism ceremony and outdoor service. It was great time to enjoy fellowship.

- Personally, it was impressive to watch our youth kids baptized. It was fantistic. I hope those who were baptized will continuously think of the meaning of baptism, the fact that you guys are those who are forgiven and united with Jesus’ death and resurrection. And I hope them to live the lives for God’s glory as Jesus’ disciples.

- So today, I preach God’s message to you after long time so I feel excited and nervous at the same time.

- The title of today’s sermon is “There is no different gospel.”

That there is no different gospel means that there is only one pure and true gospel.

It does not mean a different gospel is totally different. They are really similar to true gospel, but they are not true.

EX: 내 신발… Many people say that these shoes are Air Force because it looks similar. But when you look at these carefully, it is different from Air Force.

It’s is a kind of cousin. The name is Court Vision. It is not fake Nike. I mean it is not Air Force.

- Likewise, real and fake are very similar, but different.

본문의 도입

- Our text is Galatians. It is Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia, a province of the Roman Empire.

- Gal 1:1-5 is Paul’s first greeting.

- In the greeting part, there are descriptions of God the Father and Jesus Christ. It’s interesting.

<< 4절 / Now he is describing Jesus Christ. How?

- And then, Paul is entering his body.

- There was a certain issue in Galatian churches at that time

- In those times, many new churches were founded in that region because Christians evangelized enthusiastically. And the churches were continuously growing.

- By the way, some bad people came from Jerusalem. They entered the Galatian churches and distorted the gospel Paul preached.

- So not small people were deluded by the different gospel they taught, and they turned from God.

다른 복음과 진짜 복음

1) 다른 복음

- Can you count how many time the expression “different gospel” occurs in today’s text?

- four times in Korean version. In English version, “different gospel,” “another one,” “a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you,” and “a gospel contrary to the one you received.” These all refer to the different gospel.

- It means this expression is very important in today’s text.

- Then, what is this different gospel?

- A different gospel is not a totally different thing from the real one. It is almost the same as the real, but very little thing is different. In doing so, it deludes people. It makes people confused.

- EX: 재밌는 fake (짝퉁) 이미지들 <PPT>

- EX: 위조지폐 사진 (Counterfeit notes) <PPT>

- 진짜와 가짜는 한 끗 차이다. The difference between the real and fake is very little. Almost same, but different.

!! The different gospel the bad people taught in Galatian churches was “faith” plus “circumcision.” <PPT>

- It is interesting that they also believed in Jesus, but the thing was that they thought it was not enough.

- They believed people could be saved when they work the law as well as believe in Jesus. So they strongly encouraged and even threatened Christians to get circumcised. And they said people should work law and do good deeds to be saved although now they believe in Jesus.

!! Eventually, what the different gospel means is “faith” plus “work” or “good deed.” <PPT>

- Is it right? No! Paul clearly says this is not the true gospel. This is a different gosple different from what we have.

2) 진짜 복음

- Then, how can we discern real gospel from a different gospel?

- To discern real gospel and different gospel, we must know the real gospel exactly. Those who know the real can notice the fake.

- EX: To know my shoes are not Air Force, one should know the real Air Force. 내 아내에게 물어보기 >> 선민이한테 물어보기

- 진짜를 알아야 한다.

- Verses 1-5 give us a hint.

- Paul mentions Jesus’ resurrection, and the fact that Jesus gave himself for our sins to rescue us.

- And Paul says it was God’s will to save us.

!! Yes. As Paul mentions here, the gospel is “God’s love and power of saving us through His only Son, Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross and his resurrection.”

!! The Son of God died instead of us. He solved all our problems of sin through his sacrifice. And God raised the Jesus after three days to show His victory over Satan and to show us the proof that Jesus is the real Son of God.

- And what matters is that it is enough if somebody has “faith” in this. Faith is enough.

- If other conditions like circumcision or good deed is added besides faith, it is a different gospel, fake gospel.

다른 복음을 전하는 사람들

<< 7절

- There have been always people who throw us to confusion. They are those who distort the gospel.

- In history, there have been always that kind of people.

- Especially, in the middle age, Roman Catholic church severely distorted the gospel.

- Every October 31th is the Reformation day. <PPT>

- Reformation was a kind of movement that God’s faithful people resisted the Roman Catholic that distorted the gospel.

- Roman Catholic church asserted people can be saved through good deeds. They also believe in Jesus as the Son of God, but they thought it was not enough. So they sold indulgence. Indulgence was a kind of ticket through which people could be forgiven and saved. How ridiculous!

- Reformers like Martin Luther, John Hus, John Calvin, Zwingli risked their lives to keep the true gospel from those who spread different gospel. <PPT>

- They shouted “back to the gospel” “Only gospel.” “Only faith!”

- We have to remember the reformers’ spirit and sacrifice.

- This is why I decided to convey the messages in Galatians from today.

- Even now, even in the church, there are people who spread a different gospel, saying faith is not enough.

저주를 받을지어다

<< 8-9절 / 9절에서 다시 강조! 아주 중요!

- This is God’s warning against distorting the gospel. Today’s text proclaim, “let them be under God’s curse!”

- Don’t misunderstand this. It is not saying general lay people or general Christians. They can be always confused.

- It points to those who actively distort the gospel and make the saint confused with different gospel.

<로마 카톨릭 비판>

- Some people say Roman Catholic church is also our brother church in God.

- But I don’t think so. Roman Catholic church is a typical example of the different gospel referred to in today’s text.

- They believe Jesus as the Son of God. But they do not trust the power of Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross. They believe that we have to do more. Different gospel!

- Even in the church, there can be this different gospel. Some people may deny salvation through only faith.

- But according to today’s text, that is a different gospel.

- Today, what I want to emphasize is that the Bible clearly say that we can be saved enough through the faith in Jesus.

Warrant

- Think of the value of the death of Jesus, the Son of God.

- Because the most precious one shed the most precious blood for our sin, it is enough to be saved.

- Jesus said, “It is finished” when he died.

!! We must trust in the power of cross.

적용

- Believing in somebody means relying on and trusting in him.

>> Trust! Trust in the power of the cross!

>> 흔들리지 마라! Don’t be swayed!

- I know we all are weak. So whenever we stumble because of our weakness, we feel uncertain and unsecure about our salvation although we are believing in Jesus.

- 목사님도 그래요.

- You can think, “I’m not sure of my salvation because I am not good enough.”

- Whenever you commit sin, your confidence of salvation become weak.

- 그런데요. 구원은 착하다고 받을 수 있는 것이 아니예요.

- However, it is not that we are saved through our goodness.

- All other religions believe that people can be saved through good deeds.

- But only Christianity has its own uniqueness. That is salvation through faith, not through good deeds.

- It is not saying that you may sin whenever you want.

- It is not saying, “don’t be good.”

- It means that salvation itself is possible though only faith in Jesus. Only faith in Jesus.

- This is the real gospel.

>> Think of how much Jesus loves you!

>> Think of what the Son of God did for you!

>> He accomplished everything for our salvation!

>> Whenever you are swayed, keep your eyes fixed on who Jesus is and what Jesus did for us. Then you can keep your faith, and you will not be easily swayed by a different gospel.

(1) That we may not be confused because of a different gospel. That we may undertand the truth of gospel and thoroughly trust the power of the cross.

(2) Pray for you all to enjoy and experience the confidence of salvation, that you may feel touched by the grace of saving us. And that you may worship God with full gratitude.
