Introduction

Write 2x4 on the board. Ask, “What does this mean?”
2 x 4- a multiplication problem that equals 8.
Write “2x4” on the board. Now “what does this mean?
2”x4” - a piece of wood that measures 2” one way and 4” another.
When something was added it changed the meaning.
The same thing happens when a person adds Jesus to their lives. Without having Jesus as your Lord and Savior, a life is lived only serving selfish interests. This means that people are only doing things to further themselves which might sound good initially but in reality it is only a temporary gain. With Jesus as Lord of your life, you have a changed meaning. You have a new purpose for life. That is to serve God and to serve others. This has an eternal gain instead of a temporary gain.
Now I don’t know if you are like me but I need to have reminders throughout my day to help me turn my attention toward God. Go back to the 2” x 4” image.
We live according 2 God’s word
Ecclesiastes 12:13 CSB
When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: fear God and keep his commands, because this is for all humanity.
We live by God’s Power
Philippians 2:13 CSB
For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.
We live 4 God’s Glory
1 Corinthians 10:31 CSB
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
This applies to every area of our lives. Sports, academics, relationships, jobs, family. (Explain how we do this in different areas.
This is the difference in how we live our lives in Christ instead of living lives for self.
We need others in our lives to help us live with an eternal mindset, live a 2” x 4” lifestyle. The reality is that we all still struggle with sin daily and we need others to help keep us accountable
