Through his testimony, Paul is telling us that we will either live and seek for the approval of others and we will use religion to get there like he did, or we will surrender and become a servant of Christ, by grace alone. Religion that is not based in the favor of God, where Jesus Christ has earned everything for us, will be motivated by our performance and seeking approval and acceptance by God through the work of our behavior.
