John 4:19–21 ESV
The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
Jesus had gone to Samaria:a town considered detestable to the Jews
Jews had no dealings with Samaritans
The Samaritan had a right to be there, to drink from this water, but it had a link to both
(Reading on) She was waiting for the Messiah just the Jews were.

Many are waiting for the Power of Christ, He has already revealed Himself and Empowered the Body

Waiting for the Messiah

John 4:25–26 ESV
The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
Many today are found looking up for the return of the Messiah
We live as though we were living in exile
Jer 29:5-7 “Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”
Build Houses (1st Gen)
Plant garden and eat of their fruit (2nd Gen)
Get Married (3rd Gen)
Have Kids (4th Gen)
Marry your Kids off (5th Gen)
Command to Increase… Expansion
Lots of work to be Done before His Return
There is a dilemma that has perplexed the Church… too many know about Jesus but, if He were to present Himself to them they would not recognize Him. IN this Christ Declares I am the one you have been waiting for.
Acts 1:11 ESV
and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”
there is a call to go about the business of the Father.
Christ is the revelation of the Divine Power of God… This same power is what is given to the Church.

The Finished Work of the Cross

There is a shame and sea of regret people tend to live in… this is what keeps people from coming to the realization of the power of God
John 4:16–18 ESV
Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”
Jesus is not coming back to deal with Sin…
This woman did not know it yet… We have seen a resurrected Jesus and know the work of the cross is complete
For those who have come to the cross there is no living in the past.
The new creation starts inside of us
John 3:3–5 ESV
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
The finished work of the Cross does a few things
Takes our sin and shame
Calls us a new creation
Prompts us to be born of the Spirit
two parts
Promises a time of Power and Authority for the Church
Christ is the revelation of the Divine Power of God… This same power is what is given to the Church.

The Promise for the Church

For those who have not come to salvation the hope Rests on The Cross.
For those who have found salvation the work of the cross is already Finished
The Promise 2 Parts
Luke 24:46–49 ESV
and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
We are to become His witnesses
all things that we have been witnesses of we are to testify
Receive the Promise of the Father
Holding Pattern
But this power will cloth us
Part 2
John 14:12–14 ESV
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
All of these things you will do:
That we have to know what He has done
We have to believe that He did it
We have to Accept that is it not limited to a times past
Greater works you will do…
Anything you ask Me I will do…
The large part of the church is in a holding pattern many have accepted the promise… some are so focused on leaving they forget they have been called to fulfill the will of God
The promise is for you and me… the welfare of our city is in our hands… the authority and power to do this rests on receiving the gift…
