Introduction

What happens when we accept Jesus Christ into our life?

What changes about us?

Some may say
Some things changed
Most things changed
Everything changed

In reality only one thing changed.

We have a new Identity.

Ephesians 2:4–7 ESV
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
In Christ we are
Are made alive.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
In Christ we
++Are made alive
++Are a new creation
1 Peter 2:10 ESV
10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
In Christ we
++Are made alive
++Are a new creation
++Are God’s People
++Have received mercy

The Bible teaches us that God’s ways are different from ours.

Isaiah 55:8–9 ESV
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God
++Sees things differently
++Knows our situation
++Understands our circumstances

What would you do to honor God?

The life of faith demands
++Confidence in God
Philippians 4:11–13 ESV
11 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Hebrews 10:35 ESV
35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
The life of faith demands
Confidence in God
++Trust in God
We must recognize where our help comes from.
2 Corinthians 3:5–6 ESV
5 Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Honoring God

1 Peter 2:9 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
God doesn’t leave our Identity to chance.

We are God’s people in position

God call His people
++A chosen race
++A royal Priesthood
++A holy nation
++His own possession
1 john 3:1
1 John 3:1 ESV
1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 Peter 2:9 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

We are God’s people in function

Because of who we are in function
++We proclaim Him
++We recognize who he is
++We remember what he has done
++We praise him
2 Samuel 6:14 ESV
14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.

1 Timothy 6:1-2

1 Timothy 6:1–2 ESV
1 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled. 2 Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.
What happens when our testimony of faith and our life doesn’t match?
Deuteronomy 28:2–7 ESV
2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. 3 Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. 4 Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. 5 Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. 6 Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. 7 “The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
Psalm 91:7–8 ESV
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
When life doesn’t match
++Remember the purpose of scripture
The purpose if scripture is not
++To make us feel good
++ Tobuild us up
++To give us what we want
Is to declare to us God’s will, way and work
Exodus 18:20 ESV
20 and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do.
Ministry responsibility is to teach people
++The word of God
++The way of the Lord
++The work of God
Ephesians 4:12–14 ESV
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
When life doesn’t match
Remember the purpose of scripture
++It is a matter of the Heart
1 Timothy 1:5 ESV
5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
To Honor God we love
++From a pure heart
Matthew 5:8 ESV
8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
To Honor God we love
From a Pure Heart
++From a Good Conscience
++From a Sincere Faith
It’s got to be real

The Power of Love

1 Corinthians 13:1–3 ESV
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love gives value
++To what we say
++To what we know
++To our sacrifice

It is not what we get in life that matters, but what we give.

John 15:13 ESV
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
1 Timothy 6:1 ESV
1 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.
When life doesn’t match
Remember the purpose of scripture
It is a matter of the Heart
++Serve with Honor

But I am called to lead

Matthew 20:25–28 ESV
25 But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, 28 even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Believers are called to Honor God

We honor God by

++Honoring those that we serve
++Counting them worthy of Honor
1 Timothy 6:1 ESV
1 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.
We honor God by
++Honoring those that we serve
++Counting them worthy of Honor
++Representing Him well even in the workplace
1 Timothy 6:6–7 ESV
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.

The Right Priorities

++Righteousness over riches
1 Timothy 6:9–10 ESV
9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
The Right Priorities
Righteousness over riches
++Purpose over Positions
1 Timothy 6:11 ESV
11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
The Right Priorities
