A Message for the Family

The tragedy of being wrongly named
Solomon - puzzles me. He was called Jedidiah, but he never lived that way. He lived as the wise king, who ended up zero and broken. What if....
Jacob - deceiver; into a a prince and friend of God
Ichabod - Hosea’s children
Generation X, generation Z, Baby Boomers.....
Do not exasperate your children…Dads and moms and siblings who are malnamed will also spread the misnaming (labeling)
Often the labels others give us affect us; and the most serious labels that have long lasting effects are the one we give ourselves…We look at the mirror and we say, “nothing”; “useless”; “idiot”; “worthless”; “no hope”; “no future”; “no loved” “curse” alone, worthless; empty; lost; destroyed; accident;
The Promise of a New Name
Isaiah 43 - no need to fear when ....because
Ephesians 1 - Look at all the amazing names that Paul calls himself, that Paul calls the Ephesians (including the young ones) 1:2-3)
Look at the prayers he prays for them…Our prayer reveal what we hope our children would be.....
Calls them to the battle field....Next generation of fighters. But they won’t be able to fight with their old name. They can only fight with their new name.
Peter - Matthew 16. Simon, you are renamed Peter....this is not a simple renaming, changing labels. Share (a factory I saw in the US; they were shirts made some place in the world, and when it gets tot he US, they have labelers (Made in the USa; India; Made in C, becomes made in ); false names. That won’t work.
Jesus calls him Peter, petros, a rock, he was far from being a rock. He was more of a pebble. No one saw his rock potential. Every one crossed their fingers everytime he said something. He either got it right or wrong.
Rename is not changing the person’s inner make-up. God made you for his purpose. Some of you are creative; but people only see a loner, someone who likes being alone. Some are g
God was reframing him. Romans 12:1-2 - Do not allow the world to force you into its mold, but be transformed (metamorphoo) by God by renewing of your minds - how you see yourself. See yourself as God sees you.....
God was saying, I made you this way, uncontrolled talker, because I need someone who talks in my kingdom. I made you a quick decider, you make up your mind as you talk, because I need someone with strong convictions......
The Path to Your New Name
How do you change your name? Not through self-effort. You can’t just rename yourself. In China, it is so common for someone to come to you and ask to be renamed…I am horrified at the request....But when God gives you a word...
This is not a self-help effort. Not giving parents some good advise and this works for all.
We can call you…but you must take the call, and go to Jesus (show the cross), go to the cross and ask God, Lord what are the things, that I must let go, give up, lay down to you. Lay down something in place of something.
Great Exchange - The gospel is the story of great exchange. We are good at exchanging our negatives with his positives. These are the problems with me, I lay these all down to you Lord, replace them with something new, something greater;
But we are also called to lay down oru bests, the things that make us good, make us effective in the world, the names that makes us great in the eyes of the world…Lay them down, because you could be so great that you end up being nothing to good. Lay all images you have labeled yourself and what others have labeled you…But you must also the things that make you tick and syccessful in the world, and now you must also lay them down febre God.
Lord I want only what you rename me....
