TRAINING ON TRAINING
Proverbs 22:6
Proverbs 22:6 AV
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
The BIble is a book of instruction and really is a training manual for most everything in our lives. So we can see many things that are so applicable to our lives today. In the book of Mark, we can see this - which brings us to our 1st point:

I. Five Primary things for Needed for Training

(true across the board)
This training takes place throughout the Gospels, but especially in the book of Mark.
There will a problem, an issue or a question and then Christ takes them through a cycle, and that cycle is the training we need to give to our children, family, class, church, or team. And it is a circle, Christ would then give them – Instruction – Demonstration – Assignment – Withdraw – Correction (All in a circle).
This can be seen in as many as six revolutions in the Life of Christ – the Seventh rotation is the Great Commission – the withdrawal is the ascension, we are awaiting the judgement seat of the Christ for the correction.
Question

A. Instruction

Christ often built his instruction on a question.
Here is how and why.

B. Demonstration

Watch me do this

C. Participation

Join me

D. Observation

You do it and I’ll watch

E. Correction

Fine tuning, what needs work.
Repeat Cycle
We often cause conflict because we don’t train properly and then discipline, which also causes rebellion.
The goal is to help children grow in knowledge and understanding?

II. Application to a Child

Now a child is different than an adult, which is different that a Marine, which is different from anything else. We have to teach a child with a lot of care.
Ephesians 6:4 AV
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

A. Teach the Child

Sometimes we pre-suppose information and instruction is not understood.
In other words, we think they should understand things like we do, or that they should understand what we are teaching them the first time.
Proverbs 12:1 AV
Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
Wisdom, understanding, knowledge:
Exodus 31 talks about the – wisdom, understanding, knowledge. It is almost always that progression.
Satan has it backwards, Satan say gain knowledge first. The serpent said the tree of knowledge makes one wise.
Wisdom is akin to skill or ability.
Wisdom is knowing how to apply knowledge.
There are lots of people who know a lot, but don’t know how to apply it.
Knowledge alone puffs up and makes us into Pharisees.
Knowledge does not become wisdom, it enhances it.
Ability without knowledge is wasted energy, but a ability without wisdom is usually used in vain.
Parents need to evaluate how to best instruct each child. Some instruction is universal, but how it is given can be different.
Teach children to receive instruction, not to rebel or become obstinate.
Christ taught parables that were deep, and some were very simple. He taught in the synagogue as well as on the seashore.
Instruction brings wisdom, knowledge, and shows the path of life
Proverbs 6:23 AV
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Proverbs 8:10 AV
Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.
Proverbs 13:1 AV
A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Proverbs 8:33 AV
Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.
Instruction increases wisdom.
Instruction is complete with all that is needed: (I will guide thee with mine eye)
Proverbs 19:27 AV
Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Caution a child about the consequences. It will cause you hurt, sorrow pain.
The hardest thing about training is the time it consumes – for parent and child.
Here are some quicker things:
Spanking
Yelling
Chasing
The time consumed investing in proper training early will far outweigh the time saved from sorrow, disappointment or helping them through struggles later.
We will take far more time later in life that we would correcting the bad behavior now.

B. Demonstrate for the Child

Judges 3:2 AV
Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof;
Showing them what to do and how to do it.
Kids pick up a lot of stuff naturally, most of it is negative.
No one needs to teach a child how to lie, or be mean, fight, hit or bite. But they must be purposefully taught obedience, righteousness, character, discipline.
God often used demonstration
Exodus 18:20 AV
And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
teach and show them
Jeremiah 42:3 AV
That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
Don’t just tell them, show them.

C. Practice with them

Deuteronomy 4:9 AV
Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;
Deuteronomy 4:10 AV
Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
Deuteronomy 4:14 AV
And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it.
Deuternomy 6 commands these things to be taught again, and we have looked at this several times already, but those first 10 verse are key.
You and the child should do it together.
Participation learns a

D. Check on them

Ezra formed what came to be known as the synagogue system to teach and to be involved in their lives to make sure everyone was learning things themselves. We have not accomplished our mission in training anyone and especially children unless we are seeing to make sure that they ae learning these things.
Ezra 7:25 AV
And thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and judges, which may judge all the people that are beyond the river, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye them that know them not.
Wasn’t Ronald Reagan that said, TRUST BUT VERIFY.
Never assume children are learning and accomplishing what they are supposed to be doing, check on them. Children should not be left to raise themselves.
I remember our drill instructors never were off of checking on us. They were watching us even when we didn’t think they were looking.

E. Give continued guidance and correction to the child

We Need to be Spiritual
To deal with parents is to ask questions.
Question to check understanding
Question to reveal flaws in logic
Proverbs 29:17 AV
Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Correction is always part of discipline. It is not good to ever discipline without correction.
But Correction does not always involve punishment. We have to learn that.
Correction is used until they understand. Until a child has learned the lesson and can practice whatever it is that you are trying to teach them, they
If dealing with sin, correction is used until the point of repentance.
