How do we handle pain, suffering and the evil around us?

This is the question we have been exploring the past couple weeks. I am hoping to wrap up by the beginning of November our series on suffering.

Joseph experienced a lot of pain and suffering.

Some of this was because of his choices and many times it was because of the choices of others.

Our choices influence others.

We are not isolated individuals. As Genesis was written to a nation seeking to understand who they are and who their God is we see many times the interconnectedness of life.

Time is a great friend.

As we look at our passage this morning it is important to realize these events do not happen soon after the “evil” committed against him.

Evil & suffering want to have us question who is God.

This is the sin of the garden and this is the path if we are not careful we will go on because of pain and evil in our world. There is a portion of those who claim to follow Jesus leaving the faith because of pain and trauma.

We must have proper perspective.

Joseph asks the rhetorical question, “Am I God?”

God is able to make good come from evil.

God is the only one able to do.

Evil and suffering does not have the last word.
