This morning we are looking at love never fails. What does that mean for us as followers of Christ? What does that mean for those who have yet to respond in faith to God’s love for them displayed in Christ? As followers of Christ the only response for us is to continue to grow in our understanding of just how deep and wide God’s love is and show it through how we live in response. For those who have not yet responded to God’s love for them found in Christ, God’s patient kind love is there for you. How will you respond to it?

Love Never Fails

God in scripture is defined by love. God who always existed has no beginning and no ending is love. Therefore love is also eternal with no beginning and no ending, no matter what God’s creation can do or throw at it his love never fails.
1 & 2 Corinthians: A Bible Commentary in the Wesleyan Tradition Chapter 18: What about Spiritual Gifts: The Love Chapter (1 Corinthians 13:1–13)

love will continue to be the operative principle for the Christian not only throughout our lives but also long after the current form of this world has passed away.

What Paul is telling us today and the people at Corinth, is that God’s patient kind love, is the kind of love that lasts forever. Agape love is the kind of love that loves without conditions. It’s the kind of love that endures the cross. It’s the kind of love that while we were still sinners, living in disagreement with God, Christ died for us. This is the love Paul is talking about not our human understanding that loves because, or loves in response, but loves period.
In vs 12 of 1 Corinthians 13 Paul mentions how God knows him completely. This chapter on love Paul who use to round up the followers of Christ and have them killed. Paul who was once intent on ending the church of God, remembers how God knows him completely, and yet loves him. That is a love that never fails.
Romans 8:31-39 Paul writes again about how unfailing God’s love is. There is a lot going on in this passage but we are going to keep it about God’s unfailing, never ending love.
Romans 5:8 NRSV
8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
What can ever separate us from the love of Christ? What can break the love God has for you? Nothing whatsoever!
This is what God wants us to know today about his love. God knows you better than you know yourself. He knows you limitations, your imperfections, the ways you fall short. He knows every skeleton in your closet, he knows every reason you feel unworthy of his love. He knows how sinful you are, living contrary to his law of love. Despite all this it cannot shake God’s patient kind, unfailing love for you. God who created all things loves you and gave himself for you, how do you respond to that love?

Faith Hope Love

What is love that never fails? Love that never fails is the love that God has had and always will have for his creation. It’s a love that withstands any test this world or any other world can muster. Love that never fails is a love, that knows all of our flaws, all of our sins, knows all the ways we don’t measure up, and still loves us. God showed his love for us that while we were still sinners, enemies of God, Christ died for us.
This brothers and sisters is a love that never fails. Thanks be to God that there is no power in hell, any struggle on this earth, any sin we can commit, or any angel in heaven that can ever separate you from the love of God found in our Lord Jesus Christ.
How do we respond to a love like this?
We have faith in Christ because of God’s love for us. We have hope in his eternal grace because of how we responded to his love. These three remain faith hope and love but the greatest of these is love.
