WHAT IS FELLOWSHIP?
Start with Movie Clip
How would you define fellowship?
Fellowship:
Definition: Friendly association, especially with people who share one's interests.
Story of the time “we all do it together” with friends. Going into the abandoned cabins at Jenness Park. Got banned from camp for two years after lighting them on fire.
Christian Fellowship:
Definition: Christian fellowship or communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians.
But what exactly is fellowship?
In the Bible there are various form of Koinoinia that we see. Foundational, a fellowship begins at the most common element.
When Paul is writing to the phillippians from jail he takes time to acknowledge the fact that they are connected in the gospel. He in verse 3.
Philippians 1:2–5 (ESV)
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
From day one it was Jesus who connected him and the church which is why he is able to rejoice in that today.
This comes from the practices that were continued in the book of Acts when it says that the disciples continued to preach and teach and break bread together.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Over and over again Paul continues writing about the importance of fellowship.
Even Jesus himself in relationship with the disciples and with his friends and brothers, he gives examples of what fellowship is.

At it’s core, Fellowship is connection
It is connection to a commonality that allows people from various walks of life to come together and do life with one another.
Think about what brought you here? When was the first time you stepped into youth group? What was your experience like? What kept you here?
Even if your experience at youth group was not a memorable one, there is something that has you coming back right?
We tend to connect with others that have had the same experiences as we do.
Story of Giacomo (WE HAD THE SAME CHILDHOOD)
The need for human connection is something that is normal. As a matter of fact, we are told in Genesis that we were created in the image of God. God himself is in fellowship.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Explain how the trinity is God actively living in a community of love which the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Fellowship is natural
Because Fellowship is our natural way of connecting, we are instructed to not stop meeting as a congregation.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
In the midst of fellowship, we are meant to come along side one another. The only way to do that is to continue meeting.
STORY IF PEOPLE STAYING HOME AND WATCHING CHURCH
See we are not meant to be alone. We are meant to be in relationships with people.
