Luke 6:6-11
On another Sabbath He entered the synagogue and was teaching; and there was a man there whose right hand was withered.
The scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find reason to accuse Him.
But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And he got up and came forward.
And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?”
After looking around at them all, He said to him, “Stretch out your hand!” And he did so; and his hand was restored.
But they themselves were filled with rage, and discussed together what they might do to Jesus.
“On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and
the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him. But he knew their
thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, "Come and stand here." And he rose and stood there. And Jesus said to them, “I
ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?" And after looking around at them all he said to him,
"Stretch out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they
might do to Jesus.”
God never created us to be perfect but to be good.
But our biggest issue in our life is that we don’t like being unique…
We are amongst one of the smartest generations to ever live, we have advanced greatly in our technology, we’ve surpassed most of our predecessors in athletics, we are constantly discovering new ways of living and formulating new ideas to help our world but we struggle in one area and that is discovering who we really are. We are masters of disguise and we have become so comfortable we have adjusted our lives to where if we dont like what we see we can just put a filter on it and tweak it until it shows others the filtered us and not the real us, but I get it because if they caught a glimpse of the real us we would not get as many likes, our following would go down to just a few people who dont check social media frequently and some people will even delete your number out of their phone just so they wont be associated with such imperfection and because of this we have made this our persona which is different from personality because persona comes into play when you mix who you are with the views of you social connections, in other words your persona is who they see you to be therefore you can never reveal yourself as anything other than that or you then become a fraud so now your personality which is your identity which is comprised from within and is connected to your genetic make-up and your environment and culture and moral upbringing is thrown in the shadows never to be seen again and now you are struggling with what we call an identity crisis.
Adam lost himself, because we will blame Eve in another message but today we will shed light on Adam because he was the one who met with God in the cool of the day, he was the one God has a special connection with that he only added someone else just to give Adam help but Adam didn’t need Eve for relationship he needed her for reproduction because he had God all to himself and now we found him in a situation where he’s doing something he knows is outside of his personality but because his persona is a loving husband he trades that in for his personality which came from God and now he’s lost his identity which was connected to his time with God and God comes down to the tree of life in the cool of the day and Adam is nowhere to be found so God has to wake up his identity by saying ADAM, WHERE ARE YOU?!?! And some of us in here have been in this place where we let one moment snatch us of our identity and now we are like Paul who said the very thing I should be doing I can’t but that which im not supposed to do I find it easy to, O wretched man who is this person in the mirror cuz I promise you thats not the same that was standing in this mirror last year, what happened to that smile that used to be there, what happened to that innocence that used to be there, maybe ill close my eyes and when I look again ill be back to normal and then I open my eyes and that joker is still staring right at me wavin back, but tell somebody im getting restored today.
And im going through all of this because im different
And Jesus deals with this during his time on Earth…
Jesus’s biggest enemies during his time on Earth was the Jewish community..but he’s jewish. His assignment was not to blend but to influence and they couldn’t handle it...
their biggest issue was him doing work on the sabbath
Story of grain field
“WHY DO THEY DO WHATS UNLAWFUL ON THE SABBATH”
So once again he has come to the temple on the sabbath to read and pray when this particular time he sees a man in the temple with a withered hand, before we go further I need to give you the journey of this man..
*Herod wanted to make friends with the jews by building the temple in Jerusalem.
He chose the greatest stone Masons in the Galilean area (we all have gifts that we work on, we perfect them so that one day the world can experience it) sing, preach, administration, dance, consultants.
They wouldn’t have met deadline so they got permission to work on the sabbath…And they finished in time.
We want to be celebrated, but what happens when we get used and then thrown away… (thank you for your work, but because you didn’t refuse to work on the sabbath you will be punished)
His punishment was:
-Right hand was crushed
-No eye contact with anyone
-He had a red fabric wrapped around his broken wrist
-He sit at the North wall of the synagogue
The king made “THE STONEMASON”S DISALLOWANCE” - His sin could never be forgiven, his hand could never be healed, this is what God does to the whose disobey him…
Every Sabbath for 25 years he came so the king could make an example out of him…
On this particular Sabbath,
Jesus comes in
from the northern gate
And sees this man
And before he opens his text
Before he says a prayer
Before he begins to teach
He decided
To deal with this man’s issue
Even though
His accusers were ready
To trap him
He was already a dead man
When he was born in a manger
He asked them
Should you save a life
Or destroy it
On the sabbath
In other words
Dont forget
This is my day
And ill do what I want
On my day
So he calls the man up
And says show me your withered hand
Now he has two choices
Continue to live afflicted
Or expose his weakness
To be healed
Some of us
Have two choices
Restoration
Or cycles
Deliverance
Or bandage
I heard someone say
If you can stand
To declare your weakness
He can stand
To declare his power
So he stretched forth
His withered hand
And immediately
It was restored
He was expecting
The king to come
And condemn him
He was expecting
The king to come
And shame him
He was expecting
The king to come
And point him out
But another king came
And restored him
Another king came
And healed him
Another king has come
To change you
Another king has come
To forgive you
Therefore
The king came
And died on a cross
A king came
And said I thirst
A king came
And said
it is finished
And one day
The king is coming back
For his church
For his bride
Say yes!
Altar Call
How long has your hand been getting worse?
