Song of Solomon 1:4–6 NASB95
4 “Draw me after you and let us run together! The king has brought me into his chambers.” We will rejoice in you and be glad; We will extol your love more than wine. Rightly do they love you.” 5 “I am black but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, Like the tents of Kedar, Like the curtains of Solomon. 6 “Do not stare at me because I am swarthy, For the sun has burned me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me caretaker of the vineyards, But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.
Some of my favorite words in the whole bible.
If you know me at all you know about my love for the book of SOS.
I think it is the best book in the entire bible for devotion primarily because of it infuses on intimacy.
Remember the king is a type of Jesus and the bribe is the church
Watch this
Noctice her request Draw me after you!
This is the desire of her heart. It maybe weak but this is what she needs and wants.
“Draw me after you and let us run together! (NAS) Song of Solomon 1:4 (The Message)
4 Take me away with you! Let’s run off together!
Notice the conversation
She prays, “Jesus, draw me away.” She longs to be drawn close to God’s heart in deep intimacy as an extravagant worshipper who loves God with all her heart.
Although we have the desire and the willingness to pursue after Him, we cannot help but feel a lack of strength for the pursuit.
This strength for the pursuit is not a mighty power from the Spirit that is given to us once for all. Rather, the Lord's own beauty and glory draw us.
I think Watchman Nee says it best when he says
Watchman Nee says, “His drawing power is our pursuing power.”
Her desire is to be drawn away (intimacy) a cry for life changing encounter.
And We will run together. (This involves partnership and minister)
The King has brought me into His chambers. We will be glad and rejoice in You.
We will remember Your love (affection) more than wine. (Song 1:4)
The result of His encounter.
The word "King" indicates that before we know the Lord as our Beloved, we must first know Him as our King.
A life of consecration always comes before a life of love, and a satisfying experience always comes after an act of consecration.
"The King hath brought me into his chambers." She has previously known Him as her King. But now the King will show her the experience of the chambers.
Not just Jesus coming here but Him taking us to His presence and in His presence is gladness and rejoicing In Him
Psalms 16 “in His presence there is fullness of JOY.
We will remember you love more than wine.
His chamber speaks of a position a place of intimacy with God.
And the only way to access it is in the place of prayer.
"The King hath brought me into his chambers." The "chambers" are the "secret place"
Psalm 91:1 NKJV
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
This is the shadow. This is the safe place.
Unless we have very deep friendship with a person, we will not bring him into our chambers.
Therefore, when the King brings her into the chambers, it signifies the beginning of fellowship and revelation.
The secret place is the place we should all long and desire to come and be in with God.
Song of Solomon 1:5–6 NASB95
5 “I am black but lovely, O daughters of Jerusalem, Like the tents of Kedar, Like the curtains of Solomon. 6 “Do not stare at me because I am swarthy, For the sun has burned me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me caretaker of the vineyards, But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.
Now think about it the place of Prayer is wonderful
It is necessary… we should long to gain that kind of fellowship with God but notice the reality of her heart,
I am black!!! I am weak dark because of sin but her come another truth
She is also found to be lovely to God
Notice the shame she feels
“Do not stare at me because I am swarthy (dark), For the sun has burned me.
She says I have been out in the sun. the world because of sin has made me dark
That’s why its important to remember
Romans 8:1 NASB95
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Yes we have all been in the sun and we have all been affected by sin but God says COME!!!!
My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me caretaker of the vineyards,
Now don’t get too caught up in this but this is something we have all been guilty
She says my mother sons have made me take care of their vineyard
But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.
I have been helping everyone one else
I have been so busy doing so many thing for so many other people that I have neglected my own vineyard or heart,
We need to take the time for our heart to slow down and not neglect the necessity to get before the lord in the place of prayer
Let look at the word of Jesus
Matthew 6:6–8 NASB95
6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
When you pray
go and close the door.. this speaks of intimacy in His chamber or his secret place
pray to your father who is in secret
verse 7
"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words
it not about impressing anyone
so many times we are so concerned about others peoples garden
I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had absolutely no other place to go. -- Abraham Lincoln
Pray, and let God worry. -- Martin Luther
Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?-- Corrie Ten Boom
When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy. --Corrie Ten Boom
Let the fires go out in the boiler room of the church and the place will still look smart and clean, but it will be cold. The Prayer Room is the boiler room for its spiritual life. --Leonard Ravenhill
“We are to be shut out from men, and shut in with God.” Andrew Murray
Prayer brings forth an atmosphere, a position, a revelation, and His presents.
Prayer brings forth a connection between God and man.
The one in heaven connects to the one on earth.
Psalm 138:3 NASB95
3 On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul.
When we find this as a truth that we can call on the Lord no matter where and when we are. We find then strength and confidence for our soul.
Psalm 118:5–6 NASB95
5 From my distress I called upon the Lord; The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. 6 The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?
No matter how far you gone no matter how long you have been away. The good news is that through prayer you can turn and find again the presence of God
Jesus says go into the inner room and close the door.
Jesus is not instructing man to follow a new ritual or religious tradition.
But a deep inter relational. To as Andrew Murray says close the door to men and open it to God.
To lose self, reputation and stand before the father empty naked and unashamed
To totally open up your heart to him, in love and to find him in that secret place.
Where it’s you and him alone.
Prayer is not about our performance in front of other.
We must tend our own gardens
It is in those private times where one can be honest before the lord.
1Peter 5:7 tells us to
1 Peter 5:7 NASB95
7 casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
God give us the ability to pour out and cast out all of our fears , pains, heaviness and cares on him. Because he care and is able to carry the heaviness’s of our life.
Look at Hannah prayer in
1 Samuel 1:11–18 NASB95
11 She made a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.” 12 Now it came about, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli was watching her mouth. 13 As for Hannah, she was speaking in her heart, only her lips were moving, but her voice was not heard. So Eli thought she was drunk. 14 Then Eli said to her, “How long will you make yourself drunk? Put away your wine from you.” 15 But Hannah replied, “No, my lord, I am a woman oppressed in spirit; I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the Lord. 16 “Do not consider your maidservant as a worthless woman, for I have spoken until now out of my great concern and provocation.” 17 Then Eli answered and said, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of Him.” 18 She said, “Let your maidservant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
She totally shut the world out and prayed with passion from her soul and God answered her.
When Hezekiah got the report that we was to die he prayed
Isaiah 38:2–3 NASB95
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 and said, “Remember now, O Lord, I beseech You, how I have walked before You in truth and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
In verse 18 and 19 he says
Isaiah 38:18–19 NASB95
18 “For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness. 19 “It is the living who give thanks to You, as I do today; A father tells his sons about Your faithfulness.
And God heard this prayer and he moved giving him 15 more years.
Even Jesus had this honest moment with the father.
Matthew 26:38–44 NASB95
38 Then He said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.” 39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” 40 And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “So, you men could not keep watch with Me for one hour? 41 “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 42 He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.” 43 Again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 And He left them again, and went away and prayed a third time, saying the same thing once more.
adds this to that story…
Luke 22:43–46 NASB95
43 Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. 45 When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, 46 and said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”
Its in those time of the greatest needs God gives his greatest strength.
We must keep our own garden
