Who is the Lord of your life? (Gal 2:19-20)

Intro

- I married when I was 27 years old. After marriage, many things change.

- Previously I was alone, but after marriage I’m not alone.

- When filling in some form in office or hospital, I check in “married,” not “single.”

- And after marriage, playing with friends all night is not allowed.

- When making some decisions, I don’t make decisions on my own. I make decisions with my wife.

- 바뀌는 것이 많다.

- When having baby, more things change.

- We cannot sleep deeply. There is no enough time to meet other people. But we becomes happier.

- Likewise, there are many changes when we believe in Jesus.

- Galatians says many things about the change after believing in Jesus.

- Today, we will deal with one of them.

본문 설명

- Today’s text is really short. And it’s a very good verse to memorize. Very well-known verse.

- I will give an Amazon gift card (10$) to the first three people who memorize this verse, Gal 2:20, and show me today and before next Sunday.

1) I died to the law.

- Verse 19 says that when we believe in Jesus, we die to the law so that we may live to God.

- What does it mean? This expression concerns relationship! So we should understand this verse like this. “We died with relation to the law so that we may live with relation to God.”

- This means that we have nothing to do with the law any more, and that the relationship with God began from now on.

- Nevertheless, the expression that I died is shocking. We believed in Jesus to live, not to die.

2) “I have been crucified with Christ.” (언급 X)

- How do you feel about this? It does not sound good.

- But it is not a bad thing. It means that, when we believe in Jesus, our old selves (beings) died and we became new beings with new identity.

- EX: water baptism / The meaning you have to remember was that you died with Christ, and you came to life again with Christ.

- That is, you are united with Christ. You and Jesus became one.

- When you believed in Jesus, you became united with Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

- EX: 부부가 결혼해서 하나가 되듯이!

!! According to this principle of union with Jesus, oneness with Jesus, you have been crucified with Jesus. This is why the text says we died.

- It is not easy to understand this! It is a matter of faith!

- The Bible just proclaims that if you believe in Jesus, you have to also believe that you have been crucified with Jesus. You must believe the fact that my previous self died and a new life began with God.

>> I hope the blessing of coming to believe this truth may rest upon you guys.

~ The next thing is really important!

3) 내가 사는 것이 아니다. 예수님이 사신다.

<< 갈 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” “내가 사는 것이 아니다. 예수님이 사신다.”

- The subject “I” was changed to “Christ.”

- 예수님을 믿으면 우리 인생의 주어가 바뀐다. When we believe in Jesus, the subject of our lives changes.

- What it means is that from now on, it is not I who lead my life. But it is Jesus who leads my life. Jesus will take the initiative (leadership) in my life.

- Easily speaking, it means the Lord of my life changes from me to Jesus. <PPT>

- This is the most important point God emphasizes to us today. 주인이 바꼈다. 이제 내가 사는 것이 아니라. 예수님이 사신다. 내 삶의 subject는 이제부터 예수님이다.

- The matter of who is the Lord of my life is very important.

- Let me ask you. “Who is the Lord of your life?”

- Another question! “Are you thinking like that really?” “Do you really live like that as Jesus is the real Lord of your life?”

- EX: 백악관 정권교체.. 주인이 바꼈다. 계속 앉아 있다면....

- You know that American president was changed by election a few years ago. It means the Lord of the White House changes to a new president.

- Imagine a situation that the old president is still sitting on the chair in president’s office although president changed.. How ridiculous!

- Our situaitons may be like this.

>> 내 삶의 주인이 바뀌었다는 것을 깨달으라! 빨리!

>> Realize that the Lord of your life has changed! The sooner, the better.

- If you are not realizing this, it is very weird and shameful situation.

- Remember! Now it is not I who live. Christ lives in me. Jesus is the Lord of our lives.

>> Give the leadership of your life to Jesus now!

>> Every day, you should deliberately practice this! Give Jesus the initiative you have!

>> Every day, remember that you have been crucified with Jesus when you first believed.

내 삶의 주도권을 넘겨주기 싫은 이유

- By the way, it is very hard to hand over the initiative to Jesus.

- As for me, I have heard of this message from my childhood, but this message was the most difficult message to accept.

- Why? I was worried and afraid that somebody else becomes my Lord! Because he may oppress me, and I might live a life I don’t wanna live. Just it’s scary.

- However, today’s text says that Jesus is not like that. The Bible says that you don’t have to be afraid.

- Jesus is the one who loved you and gave himself for you.

<< Gal 2:20 “And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

- If somebody here feel afraid of the fact that Jesus is the Lord of your life, make sure of this! Jesus is not wierd. He is not oppresive. He is not picky. He is good.

- Jesus loves you more than you love yourself. He is the one who already gave up his life for you. He is the one who is wiser and more powerful than you are.

>> Be relieved! Don’t fear! Accept that Jesus is the Lord of you life. Give your initiative to Him with peace and joy.

적용

- If we realize that the Lord of my life is Jesus, not I any more, how should we live from now on?

<< Gal 2:20 “And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

>> Live a life “by faith” in our Lord Jesus!

- To put it another way, in your life, rely on the Lord! Trust in the Lord!

1) 염려도 주인께 맡겨라

- Giving your initiative to the Lord is the same as casting your anxiouties on Him

<< 1 Pet 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him becasue he cares for you.”

>> You are not the Lord. The Lord is Jesus. So cast all your anxiouties on Him! Jesus is a good Lord who cares for us.

- EX: 걱정할 거리 너무 많다. 돈, 성적, 대학, 불투명한 미래, 교회?

- 걱정하면 늙는다.

- EX: 테니스.. Eugene said that my age is more than 진헌's age plus Shawn’s age.

>> 걱정하지 마라! 이제 내가 사는 것이 아니고, 주님이 사신다. 주님이 주인이시다.

>> Don’t worry! It is not you who live your life. It is Jesus who lives your life. Jesus is your Lord.

2) 삶의 결정권도 주님께 드려라!

>> Give your Lord the authority and right to make decisions in your life!!

- There are many situations where we have to make big and small decisions in our lives.

- EX: When watching TV show or movies on old story where a lord and servants, who makes decisions? lord!

- In your life, the one who make decisions is Jesus because He is your Lord.

>> You have to ask Him what to do and how to do!

- If you ask Him and pray to Him, He will teach you and lead your life through the Holy Spirit.

정리 및 결론

- After believing in Jesus, many things change. It’s different before and after.

- We have become united with Jesus. We have been crucified with Jesus. There is no the previous I.

- It is not I who live, but Jesus who lives in me. Subject changed. The Lord changed

>> Give the initiative to Jesus every day. And live by faith in your real Lord, a good Lord who loves you and cares for you.
