A Good Day

Psalm 73: 1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
Asaph goes on to recall the days of his slipping, falling, being envious at the foolish because of their prosperity.” This sounds much like we as a nation have gone through. It sounds like what we all go through as frail, human beings. But then at verse 26 he remembers God his strength, his portion forever! And again at verse 28:
Psalm 73:1 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. Then Asaph begins to describe human traits ,feet sleeping, steps moving in the wrong direction and malaise “envy, pride, violence etc.) of all kinds that sounds similar to our current milieu. At the 26th verse he reclaims God as the strength of his heart.
And then our focal verse, our praise! Psalm 73:28 “But it is good for me to draw near to God, I have put my trust in the Lord, that I may declare all thy works.” The Psalms of David has ended and this one Psalm, which is three of Asaph begins. Asaph is a Levi; he is one of the musicians of the first temple. His name in the Hebrew tongue means “to gather.”
As we “gather” this evening, I am certain that some of us have heard the song, “everyday is a day of thanksgiving.” When we hear the Psalms, we understand that it was and is Israels hymnbook. Psalm 107: 1 The Psalmist David retorts, “O give thanks unto the Lord for He is good, his mercies endureth forever.”
Israel had much to praise God for as we know:
Deliverance from bondage
Food (manna) in the wilderness
A cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night...
Not to mention,
“God’s mercy (Hesed/eleos)- keeps them and that makes for - a Good day.”
“God’s love - (Agape) birthed Israel (us,) never failed Israel, never fails us and that - makes for a Good day.”
“God’s peace (shalom/irene)- covered Israel and us, never leave us, never forsook Israel, never forsakes us and that makes - for a Good day.”
Psalm 73:28a “But it is good for me to draw near to God, I have put my trust in the Lord” - which makes for a good day. James 4:8 Draw near unto God and he will draw near unto you.”
Author Bruce Wilkerson stated “nothing pleases God more than when we ask for what He wants to give us.” Do you believe that He wants to give us “A Good Day?”
Blessings!
