Christian Approach to Halloween

INTRO: Let's talk about Halloween.  It's evil, comes from satanic origins, we should have nothing to do with it, and anyone who does is going down instead of up when they die, right? Hmm. Let’s look at some verses:
Ephesians 5:16 NIV
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
John 13:35 ESV
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
4 Approaches to Halloween
Full Secular participation.  Use the day as an excuse to drink, party, dress like a hooch, and celebrate your dark side.  You can always get forgiveness the next time you’re in church, right?
Proverbs 4:14 ESV
Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil.
2. Do nothing or hide.  Almost always an option in any decision.  Act like the day isn't happening. Act surprised if anyone shows up at your door.  Or, turn off the lights, close the curtain, don't answer the door.  Or, simply be gone for the day.
3. Alternative.  Go to your church's fall festival (or similar event)
4. Gentle participation.  Participate, but wear non-controversial, non-demonic costumes.  Princess and cowboy costumes come to mind, but I'm old enough that those might be somehow controversial to those in the PC culture these days...
Ask yourself some questions.
What is the PURPOSE of what I am doing?
How am I showing Christ's love through what I do?
How can I make the most of this opportunity in God's kingdom?
How can I reach out to someone who is hurting or scared?
Am I feeling superior because I'm doing this instead of something else?
How is this bringing glory to God?
Make your choice on what you are going to do. In other words: BE INTENTIONAL
And then, DON’T JUDGE the choices other Christians make.
This is a controversial topic. Well-meaning, reasonably educated Christians disagree on this topic.
Romans 14:5b (ESV)
Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.
APPLICATION: Be Godly and Intentional about your choices.
Then, after answering those questions, enjoy your time with your friends and your family.
BENEDICTION:
Numbers 6:24–26 ESV
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
