Death as it should be

 1 Corinthians 11:26

Intro:

·         We all get inspired by stories of heroic deaths

o    Soldiers — Body Guards — Parents

o    Stories about someone who died to save the life of another

§  If you’re going to die, that would be the way to go

·         For the last month – Life As It Should Be

·         Observing the Lord’s Supper this morning

o    Verse 26 – this is about remembering Christ’s death

o    Hit me! – This is DEATH as it should be

·         Death is not generally thought of as something pleasant

o    But as we look at the death of Christ this morning, pleasant is not what I’m after – exciting – inspiring – praiseworthy – these are more the ideas we should have today!

·         If Christ had not experienced death as it should be, then you and I could not experience life as it should be

·         Will this just be information?  Depends on your response

o    2 Corinthians 5:15 - and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

o    Gratitude — soberness — dedication to living for Christ

3.       How much better if all had lived

a.       What a great story that would have been!

B.    Verse

1.       Colossians 1:21-22 - 21This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. (NLT)

C.    Application

a.       Romans 6:6 - We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. (NLT)

b.       We are not slaves to sin; we can walk in a victorious manner!

Conc:

·         We’ve spent the last four weeks talking about life as it should be

o    We should live to worship God

o    We should fully depend on Him

o    We should experience His reality

·         All of that is possible because for us to have life as it should be, Christ experienced death as it should be

o    Let’s remember that as we observe the Lord’s Supper.

o    Gratitude — soberness — dedication to living for Christ
