3. The Testing by Jesus v.5-6

Bethsaida is Phillips hometown

Jesus is testing Phillip to see if Phillip is relying on himself or relying on Jesus

4. The Answer for Jesus v.7-9

Phillip had 200 denarii v.7
not enough - This represented about 8 months of wages
Phillip thought money was the solution for the problem
Andrew failed as well v.8-9
Barley bread was used to feed livestock.
Andrew failed to understand that a little bit in the hands of the Lord goes a long, long way.

5. The Miracle from Jesus v.10-11

v.11 Jesus gave thanks as it came from above.
It is God’s will that we give thanks
James 1:17 NKJV
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
Prayer - Jesus thanked God for the food.
Deuteronomy 8:10 NKJV
10 When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.

The Comfort of Jesus

John 6:15-21 is about how Jesus comes to comforts us in our storms. Matthew 14 and Mark 6 are the parallel gospels to this account.

1. The example of the Lord v.15

Jesus perceived that the Jews wanted Him to be a political and military king.
John 6:26 NKJV
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.
He came to be a servant, not a king.
He came to be the bread of life

2. The knowledge of the Lord v.16-18

The sea of Galilee is 680 feet below sea level.
Jesus made the disciples get into the boat… Jesus had full knowledge that the storm was coming.

45 Immediately He made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away.
Whatever storm you are in, God knows about it or is making it happen.
Ephesians 1:11 NKJV
11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

v.16 - left in the evening, the 1st watch which is from 6PM-9PM
Matthew 14:25 NKJV
25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
The fourth watch of night is from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM
The disciples were in the storm for a period of 6-12 hours!
God’s timing is always perfect, He is never late.
Why the storm?
To turn our eyes to Jesus
So we can minister to others - 2 Cor 1:3
2 Corinthians 1:3 NKJV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;
James 1:2 NKJV
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

4. The Words of Lord

v.20 - Do not be afraid!

The storm is still raging at this point in time

Jesus is calming the storm internally

1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Matthew 14:28–32 NKJV
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

Peter’s Prayer? Lord, Save me!
