2Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”
Good Evening,
Today is a day that we all wish would not be a part of our lives. Its this day that we celebrate the life and legacy of Kevin Pride Covan, to my family I extend my heart felt condolences to the immediate family, my family and to all his friends across this world. None of us could have anticipated that this would be our last time enjoying the presence of my nephew time here on earth. I pray this day that the Holy Spirit will comfort you and give you sustain peace not just to today but all the days that will be head of you.
We have come today to celebrate the life and legacy of God’s making of an unconventional soldier name Kevin Covan. Today as we have assemble together we are going discuss Kevin’s grind to glory. The word grind is means to crush or break (something) into very small pieces by rubbing it against a rough surface or using a special machine. Kevin came through and up on the rough side of life that was varied in many different ways and pieces all of which at times could have broken his spirit but the fight in him would not allow him to give up. Many of you that are in here today are feeling a myriad of emotions and are wondering why and where do we go from here without the joy and light that kevin brought to our lives.? I believe as we look at the scriptures we can find hope in the midst of our saddness. Join me as we look at the narrative of the text in 2 Timothy in which Apostle Paul who was a Jew who was raised in the city of Tarus Based on the Book of Acts, Paul was a Roman citizen. He was from a Jewish family from the city of Tarsus, a trade city on the Mediterranean. Located in Asia Minor, it was influential in trade since at least the time of Alexander the Great. Apostle Paul was trained as a phariseed. He studied under the great Pharisaic teacher, Gamaliel, who may have been the grandson of Hillel the Elder. He was a tent maker, he was a persecutor of christian and  he was name among those who stone steven  to death. Yet Christ see something in him that can be used for his glory. .......some of you who are listening to me right now can Identify with Paul. You have not been a follower of Christ and you have done some things in which you are not proud of and don’t think you can ever be forgiven for because it was something that was that seems unforgiveable. Paul  meets a man called Ananasis and his sight returns and new insight in to who Jesus the Christ really is. In 2 timothy Paul is now writing a letter to his son in the gospel Timothy and admonishing to preach the word of God he is giving him instruction and encouragement concerning the ministry. Paul understand that his time is short and that he will more than likely be executed. While writing this letter Paul begans to reflect on his life and ministry as a follower of Jesus Christ and he makes this statement of his testimony regarding all that he had been through and what he had come to terms with concerning his life and death. l believe if Kelvin could testify he would say Auntee, while I was grinding I was fighting the good fight. What do you mean by that Kevin that you fought a good fight. Well auntiee There were times i just fought to be fighting because I had to survive whatever was facing me at the time. I did what I had to do to survive. I fought to survive in situation that were not pretty. So yes I made some mistakes and lost some people along the way but I kept getting up every day trying to do better. I can’t always say it was a good fight but it was a fight. However when I came in contact with Christ I began trying to fight the good fight. There were times I didn’t know what to do some people walked away but I never stop trying to do better and fight the good fight. So what you are saying Kevin is that you did let nothing keep you from grinding towards better. What you are saying is in the assembly of life where conflict and hardship occur you sought to see the good in everything that came your way no matter how difficult life was at the time. I’m not going to tell you that it was easy and I didn’t do some things wrong in life because I did. However no matter how difficult the fight was I did not give up.
