God’s primary method of operation is through His love and Kindness (Ha-seed).

1 And it came to pass after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead. 2 Then said David, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shewed kindness unto me.
And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his servants for his father.
And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
Kindness is fruit of the Spirit- selfless, compassionate, and merciful.

David was at point in his life that he wanted to show kindness to all those that helped him in past.
In the last chapter he showed kindness to Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth.

There is no record of the act of kindness that Nahash showed to David- Ammon was enemy of Israel but it was something in the past that made David desire to honor him .
