The Power of the Abundant Life
October 24, 2021
Scripture: John 10:10
The gospel of John is a little different than the other gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke.
One thing that stands out about John is he emphasizes focusing on the deity of Christ.
The deity of Jesus is an essential element of our faith.
One of the things that separate Jesus from other religious leaders was He claimed to be God.
But not only did he claim to be God, but he also proved he was God.
Other religions do not recognize Him to be God:
· They say he was a good man
· A prophet
· A great teacher
· They deny he was God
· But our faith teaches us that Jesus is God wrapped up in human form.
· He is God coming to show Himself by the person of Jesus Christ.
· That is a core piece that Jesus is Fully God and man.
Jesus conquered death, and no other religious leader did that, and that’s why we follow Him.
· He hit up out of the grave and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father
So John spends a great deal of time showing us who Jesus is from the first chapter till the last.
In John chapter 1:1 says:
· He tells us at the outset that the Word was God
· That it was with God
I’m John 1:14 he says:
· And we beheld his glory
And the rest of John reveals to us who Jesus is.
I’m chapter 2, he tells us
· That Jesus turned the water into wine at a wedding feast
In John chapter 3
· He meets this religious leader named Nicodemus, and Jesus tells him he must be born again
In chapter 4
· He met the woman at the well and offered her living water where she would never have to come back to the well
I’m chapter 5
· He healed the man who had been paralyzed for 38 years
I’m chapter 6
· He fed 5,000 men with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. He must be God.
I’m chapter 8
· They brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and He forgave her
In chapter 9
· He healed a man who was born blind
In chapter 11
· He called Lazarus out of the grave after he had been dead for four days.
· He must be God
I’m chapter 14
· He said: He was the way the truth and the life
In chapter 15
· He said: He was the true vine
· I’m just trying to teach you that John spends time showing us that Jesus is God
Jesus not only claimed to be God, Is when He used the term “I am.”
The connection with that is when Moses had an encounter with God, and God told him to go to Pharoah and tell him to let his people go, and Moses asked God, who shall I say who sent me. And God said to tell him that I am that I am
· How many of you know God will be whatever you need him to be.
· He will be bread if you’re hungry
· He will be water if you are thirsty
· He is the great I am
So, Jesus lays out for us 7 I am’s conveying that He is God
· He said I am the bread of life
· I am the light of the world
· He said that I am the way, the truth, and the life
· He said I am the door no one comes unto the Father except through Me
· He says I am the door of the sheep gate
· He says I’m the resurrection and the life
· He says I’m the true vine
· He can reach you wherever you are
If you’re an architect
· He is the creator and the originator
If you’re an astronomer
· He is the bright and morning star
If you’re a baker
· He is the bread of life
If you’re a biologist
· He is life
If you’re a champion
· He is the victor
If you’re a construction worker
· He is the Chief Conner stone
If you’re a doctor
· He is the great physician
If you’re an executive
· He is the head of the church
If you’re a florist
· He is the Lilly of the valley and rose of Sharon
If you’re a geologist
· He is the rock of ages
If you’re a historian

Jesus conveys to us the essence of who He is
And in chapter 10, Jesus tells us we are faced with an enemy which is called a thief
· Who comes to steal and kill
· Every day when you get ready to walk out the door, he’s there
· But Jesus is there with us Jesus
He’s called a thief, not a robber. He wants to steal
Gal 5:22-23 he wants to steal
· A robber doesn’t care if you see him; he just wants to take what you have at any cost
· A thief tries to be sneaky; he will attack and try to catch you slipping or off guard
· Jesus called him a thief because the devil is so sneaky that he will try to lead you down the wrong path, and you won’t realize it till it’s too late
· The devil sees something inside of us that he wants to kill
· If he can get you not to come to church, he knows he can take your joy from you
The devil wants to kill
· Your faith in God
· Your joy
· Your peace
· Your hope
· You have to keep your hope no matter what it looks like outside your window
· He wants to kill everything attached to you
· He comes to steal secretly take
· He wants to kill some things in your life.
· And he wants to destroy render useless
But the text says the devil came, but Jesus also came; not only did he come
But he came to give us life more abundantly
· Jesus said I have come so they may have life… and rather you recognize it or not you are the they
Let’s talk about life
· It’s the Greek word: Zoe
· It’s the same word used in John 3:16
· John 14:6
· It means to be active
· It means to have the fullness of life
Life is when:
· You wake up, and God has given you Joy about living
Life is when:
· You feel good about living
Life is when:
· God opens up doors that no one can close
Life is when:
· Something happens and comes through that you only have talked to God about, and you see Him make it happen
· That’s life
· When you see Him open up doors, that’s life
That’s one component of life, but it also is the ability to overcome trials and tribulations
· Life gives you the ability to overcome things that come at you
· No situation comes at us that God hasn’t approved
When I think about how God has made me
· the head and not the tail
· It made me more than a conqueror
The devil doesn’t want you to reach the ultimate potential that God has for you
· The radios in cars come with an “AM” and “FM.”
· And once you stop listening to the “AM,” the adversary message
· And tune in to the “FM” the Father’s Message
· We will understand that God has given us life, and He wants us to have it more abundantly
· Your present circumstances don’t define our future potential
· We must
