“The Last Word”
It can be said that one of the most powerful interpretations of Easter is that God has the Last Word.
Yes, on that fateful Friday night, when a mob cried “Crucify Him” and a man on Caesar’s behalf handed the most complete revelation of God’s grace to suffer the most shameful and painful death – all seemed lost. It seemed that no man could ever dare to aspire or hope again.
Paul Hovey said that those hours when His voice was stilled and His hands were quiet were the blackest through which the human race has ever lived - because it meant a world having to live without hope.
But no, evil would not have the final say, for it’s day of triumph was at an end when the angel said, and many would immediately repeat “He is Risen.” Yes, God the Father would have the Last Word.
Yes, even Peter, who our Lord predicted would deny him, would be redeemed in love at a lakeside breakfast following the resurrection, and who would later go on to write to all of us who believe and those who have not yet accepted the risen Lord as their Savior –
“Decide to be done with sin – be done with the past. Put on Christ and arm yourselves with the attitude of the suffering Christ Live for the will of God. Be ready to give an account as though the end was near, and praise God that you have the name Christian.
And Peter says, “And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the Crown of glory that will never fade away.”
So today, the day of our Risen Lord, Let God have the Last Word in Your lives, and you too will receive the Crown of eternal salvation that we sing about today. Let the spirit of Lord of all, the King of Kings, come into you hearts, and if it is the first time, confess like Peter said, “to decide today to put sin away, and be done with the past, and accept the one who evil could not conquer and death could not claim, Jesus Christ out Lord and Savior who today, Easter Sunday receives the Crown of glory.
Let us now, together, sing “Crown Him with Many Crowns.” And witness in music and in word the glory of God’s power in Christ for “He is Risen”
