TEXT: Mark 4:35-41
And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
The storm in this passage of scripture symbolizes the storms of life. It represent our challenges, our struggles, limitations and everything that opposes the will of GOD in our lives.
The storms are normal to the living.
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
It means we are not to count it strange when storms or trails come into our lives. No matter how holy and anointed you are, storms will come into your life discomfort you.
Scripture continues:
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
why?
Even Jesus faced his storm on the ship;
Storms are part of our redemptive package:
Our storms are tools to access our qualification for the next level.
it precedes the the next level of blessing and placement.
Examination before promotion:
Overcoming challenges propel us to next level of work with God.
Like the children of Isreal:
There will be wicked Egyptian taskmaster contend with. Red sea to part, there will be a Jordan river to pass through, the wall of Jericho on your way to your premise land.
Joseph knew he would be great but had to be a prison and a slave first.
the storm is not meant to destroy you but to promote you.
How?
!. Resting in the Lord: it is the attitude to show in the face of a storm. Rest doesn”t mean complacency or in-activeness but rest believing the saving grace of God.
And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Whenever you fear or panic while facing trails or storms of life, you are showing faithlessness and are doubting God. it blocks miracle.
2.It is not what you do that matters.
the disciples did all the could but storm could not stop.
For the Egyptians shall help in vain, and to no purpose:
Therefore have I cried concerning this, Their strength is to sit still.
Sit still. every storm shall calm
For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel;
In returning and rest shall ye be saved;
In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:
And ye would not.
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
Rebuke the storm:
And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Every storm has ear and recognizes the behind your words. He spoke to wind and to sea and the obey.
He thought in Mark 11 to speak to our mountains.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue:
And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
The storm you can not address will not submit.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
3. Its usually lone batter:
Abraham greatest was to sacrifice hi son Isaac but could not tell his wife or his son.
