Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Yoke: Stable-gear that joins two draft animals at the neck so they can work together as a team.
To “take a yoke” in that day meant to become a disciple. When we submit to Christ, we are yoked to Him.

The Jews used the phrase the yoke for entering into submission to. They spoke of the yoke of the law, the yoke of the commandments, the yoke of the kingdom and the yoke of God. But it may well be that Jesus took the words of his invitation from something much nearer home than that.
In Palestine, ox-yokes were made of wood; the ox was brought, and the measurements were taken. The yoke was then roughed out, and the ox was brought back to have the yoke tried on. The yoke was carefully adjusted, so that it would fit well, and not chafe the neck of the patient animal. The yoke was tailor-made to fit the ox.
Learn: to gain knowledge or skills.
We learn from Christ from His word.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Living: to be alive v. — to have life, be alive.
Active: effective — producing or capable of producing an intended result.

In Greek, the psuchē, the soul, is the essence of life. All living things possess psuchē; it is physical life. In Greek, the pneuma, the spirit, is that which is characteristic of human beings. It is by spirit that we think and reason and look beyond the earth to God. It is as if the writer to the Hebrews were saying that the word of God tests our earthly life and our spiritual existence.
The division of the spirit and the soul relates to the function of each:
Our soul functions are the mind, will, and emotions
Our spirit function is our conscience, intuition, and communion (one with the Spirit).

Discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart
one of the functions of the Word of God when it comes into us is that it penetrates very deep—like a sword through tough, hard layers—and makes judgments about what's there.
The word discern or "judge" in verse 12 ("to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart") does not mean "condemn."
It means "assess." When we show somebody a painting and say, "What's your judgment?" we don't mean, "What's your condemnation?" We mean, "What's your assessment of the quality? Is it good or bad?"
So the Word of God penetrates to the deepest place in our lives and assesses what's there. Is it good or bad?
Discern: critical adj. — characterized by careful evaluation and judgment (of someone or something).
And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
But Jesus said learn of me!
When I learn of Him - I learn about Me!
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.
Jesus said... For I am...
Gentle: meek adjs. — characterized by being humble, gentle, and mild.
Meek: quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive.
Lowly in heart: humble adj. — marked by meekness or modesty; not arrogant or prideful.
Rest: restful relief n. — a ceasing from activity that results in a feeling of refreshing tranquility and an absence of tension or worry.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Jesus says: ‘My yoke fits well.’
What he means is: ‘The life I give you is not a burden to cause you pain;
Your task is made to fit you.’
Whatever God sends us is made to fit our needs and our abilities exactly.
