Strength and Salvation of the Lord (vs 1)

The psalmist recognizes that the Lord has given him victory in battle. A victory that could only have been won by the Lord. We see the psalmist in Psalms 20 praying for deliverance in this battle. It is most likely that the enemy was strong than the kings army.
We find in Psalms 21 that the Lord brought victory to the king. The King recognizes and rejoices in the Lord’s deliverance.

Our Battles

We too will face battles that are bigger than our ability to win. We must ask the Lord to defeat our enemy and bring us victory. Jesus has brought us the victory. He has made the provision of love available to in any of life’s adversities. Romans 8:35-37
Romans 8:35–37 NASB95
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, For Your sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
Christ has also brought us the greatest victory in life. He has conquered sin and death and gives eternal life. Sin no linger has to have dominion in your life. Romans 6:14
Romans 6:14 NASB95
For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Heart’s Desire (Vs 2)

The Lord loves giving us our hearts desire. When our desire lines up with His, He finds great pleasure in granting to us our hearts desires. The question is, “hoe do we know the Lord’s desires?”
Psalm 37:4 NASB95
Delight yourself in the Lord; And He will give you the desires of your heart.
When you find that your delight comes from loving the Lord, you will have the same heart. Just as David did. The Bible says that David was a man after God’s own heart.

Our desires

We must check the motive of our desire. If it is selfish or prideful, it is not in accordance with the will of God. However, if it brings glory to God and benefits others it is most likely from the Lord.
John 14:13 NASB95
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 16:23 NASB95
“In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.
To ask something in Jesus name is not just to add that statement to the end of your prayer. It is to pray as Jesus would have you to pray.

Blessings of God (Vs 3)

God desires to bless us with the good things of life. I find it interesting that the blessing of good things comes through the meeting with God. Meeting with God always brings restoration. This is good. It can be restoration from sin, worry, fatigue, sickness, and any other ailment we may have.
God not only brings the restoration, but also goes beyond and blesses us beyond restoration. We see here that the Psalmist says He sets a crown of fine gold on His head. This means that he is the benefactor of the blessings that come along with kingship.
Ephesians 3:20–21 NASB95
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
The Lord is able and willing to bless us beyond what we could ever ask for. Sometimes we pray too small. Ask the Lord for the impossible!

The Lord Gives Life (Vs 4)

The Lord spared the kings life against his enemy. He knew on his own that his enemy could take his life. He asked the Lord to protect Him and the Lord gave it to Him. Not only did He protect him, but gave him length of days forever and ever. You may ask how did this happen? because David died. Yes He did, but he lived a long life into his 70’s. But God established David’s throne forever through Jesus Christ. Jesus is a descendant of David and is King forever and ever.

Our life!

We too have life and length of days and will live forever. John 10:10
John 10:10 NASB95
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
Abundant life is found in following Jesus. Following Jesus is abiding with Him and having His word abide in us.
Folks who are seeking the abundant life outside of Jesus Christ are going to be disappointed. The things of this world were never meant to bring abundant life.

The Lord Gives Glory To the King (Vs 5)

King David prayed to the Lord for victory and the Lord gave it. It is the salvation of the Lord that brought glory to the king. This is because people knew that Lord was on the King’s side. They knew that David was the Lord’s anointed. It is the anointing that brings the glory to King David. It is not anything of himself, but what the Lord has done.

The Lord gives us glory

Our anointing is our glory. The things that God calls us to, He anoints us to do. God will get the glory, but people will recognized the glory of God through us!

The Lord’s Presence Is Joy (Vs 6)

David knew that His joy was found in the presence of the Lord. As king, he had access to anything His heart desired. He chose the Lord because it was the only thing that brought him lasting joy!
