Are We Church Yet?

Acts 2:37-47

1.      Repentance and belief leads people to form the church

2.      Unified, magnified, multiplied

3.      Miraculous wonders and signs? Vs Fellowship motivated by voluntary love

repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, forgiveness of sins, and receipt of the Spirit.

Any evangelical bible scholar will say that the bible we have is the complete revelation of the word of God. It is complete and It is closed meaning that no other books or chapters can be added onto this book.  If anyone does that we called them heresy or 이단.  But today I would like to say they were not completely right.  There is some element of the bible still being written and published and proclaimed until now.  It is called the book of Acts.  This is the only book has not been finished completely.  It is still being written by all the believers in faith community.

Last week we shared how the movement of Holy Spirit started through 120 people who were faithfully waiting even though they didn’t understand what they were waiting for.

Let’s see how the church started when it was started by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Let’s see how it is different than man made.

·         People prayed in obedience

·         Holy Spirit came

·         Manifestation

·         The Conviction (2:37) : God’s Spirit now stirs the people’s sinful hearts.

·         The Commands (2:38–39): Peter tells the crowd that they must do two things.

A.         “Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God” (2:38a).

B.         “Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (2:38b–39).

C.         The Challenge (2:40) : Peter urges his listeners to accept Christ.

·         The Conversions (2:41) : Three thousand people believe and are baptized!

·         The Communion (2:42–47): The newly formed church now involves itself in several activities.

A.         Bible study (2:42a)

B.         Prayer and worship (2:42d, 45–46a, 47a)

C.         Fellowship (2:42b)

a.      There were some practice of sharing and fellowship

b.      lFellowship: being together vs have in common

D.        Sharing and caring (2:44, 46c, 47b)
