Five basic principles about attitudes that are foundational to our understanding.
#1 Our attitudes are chosen.
Choosing to live by God’s principles results in the fruit of the spirit.
#2 Our attitudes are influenced by input, our attitudes are shaped by external influences.
Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Luke 1:17 (KJV) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
Psalm 1: 1 (KJV) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psalm 1: 2 (KJV) But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
#3 Our attitudes affect our relationships.
James 4:1 (KJV) From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
The major source of conflict is selfish attitudes.
Philippians 2: 4 (KJV) Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Philippians 2: 5 (KJV) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2: 6 (KJV) Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Philippians 2: 7 (KJV) But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.
Our attitudes are both the cause and the result of right behavior.
Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
Right actions also produce right attitudes.
Right actions produce right attitudes.
If you wait until you feel like it, you'll never do it.
#5 Our attitude determines our destiny.
Our attitudes cannot only lengthen our lives, but they can also shorten our lives.
Definition of an attitude, your mental or emotional response to the circumstances of life.
Your attitude will affect where you spend eternity.
There's only one attitude that pleases God, the attitude of repentance.
1 John 1: 9 (KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If you can change your attitude, you can change your life and your eternal destiny.
Without purpose, we are condemned to live lives of quiet desperation.
God has given you both the desire and the ability to fulfill a unique need in his world.
Philippians 2:13 (KJV) For it is God who's at work and work within you, giving you the will and the power to achieve his purpose.
