For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.
Introduction: Have you ever stop and considered this question which has been laid out before all believers in Christ?
Peter brings the church and believers at this time into a present relationship with God and the current events of his day.
Persecution
Dangers of Gods word being silenced.
A Godless government targeting Christian follower of Christ enemies of the Roman state.
The idea here is that if God will punish the righteous when they sin, He will surely punish the ungodly.
If the ones who are righteous are scarcely saved, there is no possible hope of sinners being saved.
Let them that suffer for well doing endure it and commit themselves to God who is faithful to avenge all such.
For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Our Job
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
1. Feed the flock of God, but don’t fleece them.
Obtain a great deal of money from (someone), typically by overcharging or swindling them.
The wool shorn from a sheep at one shearing.
2. Take oversight of the flock of God.
The action of overseeing something.
"effective oversight of the financial reporting process"
synonyms:
supervision · surveillance · superintendence · inspection · charge · care · administration · management · government · direction · control · command · handling · custody
3. Serve God and His flock willingly.
I Consider the preaching of the gospel a privilege and a honor from God.
Its not always going to be easy, but every dark night is worth the morning sunrise.
4. Serve readily, not for personal gain.
Playing the victim card, complaining in hopes that someone will have sympathy.
5. Do not be lords over God’s heritage.
Not exercising lordship over the flock that is under you, but being examples in utter humility and service.
6. Be examples to the flock.
pattern
Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
Lets Consider Noah
And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
We see a prime example laid out before us, this question, what shall the end be ?
A generation that obeyed not God.
A generation that dwindle down to one righteous preacher declaring God holiness word.
The generation of the city of Sodom dwindle down to no preachers of righteousness.
What was their judgement of Noah generation / A flood.
What was the judgement of Lots generation / Fire.
What will be the end for us ?
