Introduction
The first letter to Timothy is part of a group of letters that we call, The Pastoral Letters.
It is grouped together Along with Second Timothy and Titus, and rarely Philemon.
These letters are called the Pastoral Letters because they offer instructions to the young pastors, on church administration.
Paul tells them the day to day operations on running a church.
He tells them how to choose and train church leaders.
How to solve conflict between the membership.
Most importantly he tells them what to preach.
And that being Christ and Him Crucified.
And he tells them to not let anyone teach any other Gospel, than what they have learned.
Now, we know how important ministry of the Gospel is to Paul.
He tells them to FEND for the Gospel
We know how important he holds the position.
In 2 Tim he says: anyone who desires the position of the Bishop, desires a Noble Vocation.
The position of the Pastor.
The Deacon.
The Sunday School Teacher.
The Music Minister.
The choir singer and on this special day The Usher.
When you serve you serve in power.
You serve in Grace.
With all your heart.
With all your might.
And as he is giving these instructions, he is suddenly reminded about his own sin.
His own mistakes.
He starts thinking about his past.
And he can’t get over the absurdity of God calling him to the ministry.
So he’s telling them the importance of preaching the true and unadulterated Gospel of Christ and then suddenly , right in the middle of his instructions, the Commentaries say He “Bursts into praise”, thank God
