Vision - We need to be anchored making disciples in Ames. So many pulls on people’s identities. We’re considering how best to make disciples. The need for pastors in care and in providing personal leadership. We also want to encourage core groups as we make disciples together. We want to encourage you in your love for others. It’s so easy to be ashamed or antagonistic as we’re so splintered in our lives from each other.
Faith and Love - 1-3/4-6
Identity
I pray that you may find the anchor to your soul - knowing how God relates to you by...

1. The Hope of your calling (2:11-22)

Hebrews 3:1 ESV
1 Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,
Titus 2:13 ESV
13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
God’s call on your life is to bring you to heaven and He is actively at work in your life every day because He has done so.
Romans 8:30 ESV
30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
1 Thessalonians 2:12 ESV
12 we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.
Do you live in hope because He has called you?
Illustration - Not what we’re against or what we can prove we’re right about. We belong to a King who was willing to go to the cross rather than prove Himself right. Rather than majority power.
What are you worried about right now? Even if it goes as bad as possible, good can still come because His call is on your life. It’s not that we don’t seek wisdom, but it’s our hope that He acts not that we can control things.
Romans 15:13 ESV
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

2. The Riches of his inheritance in the saints (3:1-13)

Colossians 1:27 ESV
27 To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Riches are different - Saints in churches all over the world
How do you view believers who are different from you?
Illustration - different personalities
Friends who produce great beauty and who provide great perspective on Jesus - if you don’t get this, your eyes aren’t opened to how rich you are
illustration - threats to civilization - barbarians
The hope in the Gospel is not because we are right but because He saves us from our self-righteousness
Don’t despise as trash your brothers and sisters. They are being made into amazing displays of God’s grace and power
So many people to come to Christ

3. The Immeasurable Greatness of His power (2:1-10)

Power is different - Difficult vs. Easy
Raised from the dead
Seated in the heavenlies - Far above all power - Over all things
Head of the Church
If God is at work in your life connecting you to Himself and not to your circumstances, what are you worried about? What fears control you?
Romans 8:31–32 ESV
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Do you have hope? Every day? Every hour? You are in a relationship with God: Chosen, Adopted, Redeemed, Revealed, Destined to an Inheritance, and Sealed with the Holy Spirit. These are the anchors of your soul and so you should have hope every day and every hour. Not because of your performance, not because of your resources, not even because you get lucky sometimes, but because you are anchored to the God of the universe with 6 anchors that are fully set in God Himself. There is no better identity. There is no greater hope.
