Text: John 6:15-21
John 6:15–21 NKJV
Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone. Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
For the past month or so, We’ve been in a series in the book of John.
The whole point of this whole book is to paint a picture of Jesus as God. The savior of the whole world, the most righteous one.
John does not take the time to dig deep into the miracles of Jesus, Yet he chooses 7 signs to prove to us that Jesus, in fact, is the Son of God.
As a result, John’s goal is so that we would believe that Jesus is who John as calls him to be.
As we know, thte 7 signs are broken up into 2 sections,
I. is how salvation comes to us.
a. Salvation is by the word,
b. Salvation is by faith,
c. Salvation is by grace.
II. the result of the salvation that comes to us.
It was last week, where we learned one of the results of salvation.
there we Found that salvation brings satisfaction.
it is there were a multitude followed Jesus and Jesus feeds them so much so, that there are left overs.
It is now this week where we learn, that salvation brings peace.
On the front end, it seems as though this is a regular story .
There is no recollection of peter getting out of the boat or anything, From John’s perspective.
There are though, a few nuggets that will help us throughout the week.
The first thing that I noticed is that coming off of one of the most fruitful miracles, we see that the multitude is still following Jesus. and Jesus leaves he multitude and goes to a mountain alone.
this is something that most would just pass over, but it is in this place where Jesus teaches us a valuable lesson.
The value of taking some time to yourself.
He’s in between 2 miracles,
He’s just fed 5,000
He’s about to walk on water,
but in between the feeding of the 5,000 and the walking on the water, he has gotten away from the “yes men”
he has left the crowd, all to go off to himself on a mountain top.
Jesus is teaching us the power of getting by yourself.
We as a people run so much but we never get away from the crowd.
Jesus was so secure in himself, he did not need a crowd to call him king.
He was so confident in himself and his purpose, he pushed away what was unlike it.
If you want to be successful in this season, GET TO YOUR SELF.
ITS IN THOSE TIMES IN YOUR LIFE, GOD WILL GIVE YOU THE NECESSARY TOOLS TO HANDLE WHAT HE’S ABOUT TO DO NEXT IN YOUR LIFE.
THE BIBLE SAYS HIS DISCIPLES GO DOWN, ITS ALREADY DARK AND JESUS STILL HAS NOT COME.
a great wind arose, and they rowed about 4 miles until they saw Jesus.
Before I move on, theres a lesson that I want to deal with, in the row. A storm arises, and Jesus is no where to be found. They are in the middle of the ocean, probably scared for their lives, but they rowed about four miles.
Yea other translations talk about their fear and peter’s faith, but John teaches a lesson about the row.
They are on the ship alone, the bible says it is dark, Jesus is no where to be found, but they keep on rowing. This is a lesson for someone who’s going through some hard ship, pain, times of uncertainity, times where it really looks like Jesus is not there. Just keep rowing.
Its hard, you’re tired and weak, but keep rowing.
Bills are due, but keep rowing
sick in your body, but keep rowing, because at somepoint, you’ll end up running into the very thing that you were looking for.
and the truth is, they are out on the water and the wind is heavy. If they stop, The could possibly get consumed by the storm, but because they kept rowing, what should have killed them, only drove them to Jesus.
They run into Jesus. He is not on some emergency boat to come get them, but Jesus is walking on the water to get to his disciples. The disciples, after all they saw, is still afraid, but Jesus gives assurance that it is him, and they receive Jesus on the boat.
This is not some metaphor or lesson of some sorts, Jesus is God enough, that he controls every aspect of our human life.
Jesus is walking on water. He is defying the molecular laws, but Jesus is willing to break the rules just to come and save you. and you have lost your faith because you think that you’ve come to far to get what you need but this is Jesus,
the same man who turned water to win
JESUS
THE SAME MAN WHO HEALD THE SICK
JESUS
THE SAME MAN WHO RAISED THE DEAD
JESUS
THE SAME MAN WHO OPENED BLINDED EYES,
JESUS
THE SAME MAN WHO MADE THE LAME WALK
JESUS WHO MADE THE MUTE TALK
ALLL IM TRYING TO TELL YOU IS THAT WE SERVE A GOD WHO’S GO ALL POWER.
this is not just the “peace be still” when that you see in the synoptic gospels, where he calms the storm.
but this is also the peace where he calms them!
Because when you have the right relationship with God, he will give you peace even when everything around you is chaotic.
