 Wisdom's Call

 Wisdom Offered to All

 Wisdom is for ordinary people

On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud: (Proverbs 8:2-3, NIV - Anglicised)

Not confined to the academic classroom or to sacred precincts of the temple

Gaining biblical wisdom is not so much a matter of intellect as it is faith and obedience

The attainment of Wisdom is not a quest but a response

Wisdom wants to attract all and be accessible to all

 Wisdom is open to all

 Not hidden

"To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. (Proverbs 8:4, NIV - Anglicised)

 Hidden knowledge is not wisdom

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is for ever praised. Amen. (Romans 1:25, NIV - Anglicised)

 … like gnostics

 Wisdom is truth and goodness

Wisdom claims that her words are right and proper

Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right. (Proverbs 8:6, NIV - Anglicised)

The value of Wisdom over material wealth lies in her ability both to give true happiness and protect the life of her possessor

 What Wisdom Offers

 Good living

Wisdom teaches how to live a discreet and careful life as opposed to a reckless one.

"I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. (Proverbs 8:12, NIV - Anglicised)

 Direction for life

Wisdom gives direction to life and strength to meet its challenges

Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power. (Proverbs 8:14, NIV - Anglicised)

 Godly purpose

Refraining from both self-indulgence and schemes for quick money gradually but surely leads to a life that is healthy in every way

With me are riches and honour, enduring wealth and prosperity. (Proverbs 8:18, NIV - Anglicised)

… bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full. (Proverbs 8:21, NIV - Anglicised)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33, NIV - Anglicised)
