Intro:
In 2009, while in Africa, I learned the value of water. For the two weeks I spent in the bush of Africa, cut off from all modern amenities, I watch locals villages walk about one mile or so to a dirty river to draw water everyday. It was there that I began to realize just how precious clean water really is. The people of the village had to make this trip everyday so their families could survive. No mater what the weather conditions were, the trip had to be made.
Water in our story today had to be drawn from a well, in much the same fashion, for the families of Samaria to make it. It was on the minds of the people everyday. No mater what, it took water to live.
The woman in our story was about to find out that there was more than one type of water to live by. The water that she was offered that day would change her life forever.
Look with me as we explore the encounter she had with this stranger Jesus.

A Different Kind Of Water

John 4:13–15 NKJV
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” 15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
A lack of living water will show up in the life of a person.
Four signs of what happens when one has a lack of physical/spiritual water.
Persistent headaches. One of the first things you might notice when you’re dehydrated is a throbbing headache.
The same can be said about a lack of spiritual water. The headaches that come from not having a way out of your troubles.
Dull skin. Dehydration shows up on your face in the form of dry, ashy skin that seems less radiant, plump and elastic.
The look and weight of sin will show itself on the person over time. A lack of real joy/peace/life.
Fatigue. If you’re not replenishing your fluid intake, your energy levels could plummet and you could experience fatigue and brain fog. So the next time you reach for another cup of coffee, see if it’s water that you need instead.
Sin will make a person tired. Just look at this woman, she was tired of coming to the well in the heat of the day.
Weight gain. “Sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger and they eat more, but really they just need to drink more,” says Dr. Moghaddam. “Sometimes if you have a glass of water, the hunger cues will go away.”
Carrying the weigh of a life without God can cause you great pain. Too much weigh makes everything hurt.
Understanding their is a need, is the first step to your freedom in Christ.
She ask for the water even tho she didn’t understand the real application.
We may not know how Jesus will change us, we just have to understand He will.

Confronting The Sin

John 4:16–17 NKJV
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’
Why it’s important to confront sin.
Harboring sin that we know need to be confessed, will limit us from the freedoms that have already been allocated to us from God.
Steps to deal with our sins.
Ask God to reveal it to us.
Psalm 139:23–24 NKJV
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Understand through scripture, that our sin is detrimental to our spiritual growth.
Isaiah 59:2 NKJV
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
Confess our sin and ask for forgiveness,
1 John 1:9 NKJV
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He already knows.
What we hide in our spirit, is not hidden from God.
It takes a great deal of courage to confess ourselves to God
There are even times when we don’t know that a problem exist.
Our spirit will give us tell tell signs if we just pay attention.
Longing for something more/ Feelings of separation/ a disconnection from spiritual reality.

When Hiding No Longer Works

John 4:18–19 NKJV
18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.” 19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
Hiding only mask the problem for a while.
Hiding is just a denial of the real problems we have.
Hiding will never fix the issues.
She hid from everyone at the well only to realize it was not a fix.
Hiding only drives you deeper into the well of pain and separation.
What exposing yourself to God will do.
It releases the burdens you are carrying.
Allows you to see the Grace that God has for you.
Teaches you what it means to really be loved by God.
Conclusion:
There is no good reason to allow the sins of life to control you.
Jesus loves you so much that he wants to set you free from the bondage of this world.
