Intro

Genesis (A. The Serpent in the Fall (Genesis 3:1–5))
The work of Satan in the fall was front and center. He opposes the work of God, and no sooner had man been put in the Garden of Eden and Satan showed up to create havoc. The tactics of Satan are most evident in our text, and they have not changed in our times but are still very current. Therefore we study the Word of God to gain a better understanding of how Satan wants to destroy our fellowship with God.

9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things. 10 To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it qin the person of Christ; 11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Deceit (More Subtil)

Subtil - sly, artful, cunning, crafty, deceitful, clever at attaining one's ends by indirect and often deceptive means.
Genesis (1. Deceit (Genesis 3:1))
Satan used the serpent, who was then a beautiful creature, to attack. He disguised himself in that which was very attractive and appealing (snakes are not that way today, of course, but they were before the fall). Satan does not come to us as a horned imp with a forked tail and horrifying grin but rather as a most attractive person. Satan loves to deceive by outward appearance.

14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Doubt (Hath God Said?)

Genesis 2. Doubt (Genesis 3:1)

One of Satan’s favorites tactics is to cast doubt on the Word of God. If you do not have confidence in the Word, it will not be your guide. And Satan wants something other than the Word guiding your life. So he gets the Word of God removed from our schools and government, and gets churches to de-emphasize the Word in their programs. The classrooms of many religious schools foster this doubt by their discrediting of the Word.

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

9  Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way?

By taking heed thereto according to thy word.

10  With my whole heart have I sought thee:

O let me not wander from thy commandments.

11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart,

That I might not sin against thee.

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

We can read in Matthew 4 how Jesus was tempted by Satan. Jesus replied every time Satan tempted Him with the reply, “It is written.”

Discontent (Ye shall not eat of EVERY TREE of the garden?)

Genesis 3. Discontent (Genesis 3:1)

Satan focuses on the negative, on the restrictions. He does not focus on the positives, on the privileges. He focuses on the burdens, not the blessings. He would make you discontent with your God-appointed situation.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. 12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. 2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort. 3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 qPerverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. 9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and ffollow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Content - To satisfy the mind; to make quiet, so as to stop complaint or opposition; to appease; to make easy in any situation;
We should focus on our triumphs, not our trials, our delights and not our disappointments.

Denial (Ye shall not surely die)

Genesis 4. Denial (Genesis 3:4)

Satan likes to deny the certainty and practice of Divine judgment. Therefore he says hell is a joke and sin is not punished by God. But when the certainty of punishment is removed, crime will increase. Satan knows this and supports leniency in punishment of crime.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, iwickedness, covetousness, jmaliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, pproud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, swithout natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but xhave pleasure in them that do them.

44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

2 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Genesis 4. Denial (Genesis 3:4)

The perverted emphasis on the love of God to the exclusion of the holiness and judgment of God also encourages denial of judgment upon sin.

We wouldn’t know the love of God, without knowing we deserve hell, and that we were once dead, but made alive through Christ Jesus.

Dishonor (Your eyes will be opened and ye shall be as gods)

Genesis 5. Dishonor (Genesis 3:5)

Satan dishonors God all he can. He would make God cruel, unfair, and much too restrictive. In our text he claimed God was holding back blessings from man. If Satan can get God dishonored in the eyes of mankind, then mankind is not likely to honor and obey God and His Word. So today God is pushed out of schools and government and thus dishonored, which means folk will not obey Him.

12  How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!

How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven,

I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

18  Pride goeth before destruction,

And an haughty spirit before a fall.

12  There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,

But uthe end thereof are the ways of death.

Man thinks we deserve things. We deserve money for our hard work. We deserve that promotion, we deserve that new car. We deserve that new home. WE DO NOT DESERVE ANYTHING BUT HELL.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Conclusion

Satan wants to destroy our fellowship with God. He hates God so much that he wants to destroy what God loves. (For God so loved the WORLD, that He gave his only begotten Son)
If you are lost, the Lord wants to save you. All you have to do is believe in the finished work of Calvary, repent of your sins, call on Jesus to save you, and He’ll save you to the uttermost.
If you are saved and living in sin, God wants to restore fellowship back with you.

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
