I. Warning Against Laziness
I. Warning Against Laziness
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, Observe her ways and be wise,
7 Which, having no chief, Officer or ruler,
8 Prepares her food in the summer And gathers her provision in the harvest.
30 I passed by the field of the sluggard And by the vineyard of the man lacking sense,
31 And behold, it was completely overgrown with thistles; Its surface was covered with nettles, And its stone wall was broken down.
32 When I saw, I reflected upon it; I looked, and received instruction.
33 “A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest,”
34 Then your poverty will come as a robber And your want like an armed man.
4 The sluggard does not plow after the autumn, So he begs during the harvest and has nothing.
9 How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?
10 “A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest”—
11 Your poverty will come in like a vagabond And your need like an armed man.
4 Poor is he who works with a negligent hand, But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.
26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him.
27 A lazy man does not roast his prey, But the precious possession of a man is diligence.
4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
19 The way of the lazy is as a hedge of thorns, But the path of the upright is a highway.
A lazy person comes up with any excuse that they can as to why they can’t do their job. Everything is a hedge of thorns. But a diligent person doesn’t see any obstacles to their work. When they set their mind to do a task, it is like a highway for them.
Kids, is your school work like a hedge of thorns or a highway? Do make every excuse that you can think of to not do your work? I can’t find a pencil, It’s not sharp enough, I have to go to the bathroom, its too hot, its too cold, it too bright in my room, its too dark, etc.
9 He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who destroys.
not working hard at a task is related to ruining that task. If you have a task with a deadline, being lazy about it might cause you to miss the deadline and that destroys the opportunity.
15 Laziness casts into a deep sleep, And an idle man will suffer hunger.
24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish, But will not even bring it back to his mouth.
15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; He is weary of bringing it to his mouth again.
14 As the door turns on its hinges, So does the sluggard on his bed.
13 Do not love sleep, or you will become poor; Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with food.
17 He who loves pleasure will become a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not become rich.
25 The desire of the sluggard puts him to death, For his hands refuse to work;
26 All day long he is craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back.
10 For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
11 For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.
12 Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread.
4 “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.
14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
