John 2:1-11 (KJV)
1  And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2  And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.
3  And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.
4  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee?
mine hour is not yet come.
5  His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6  And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7  Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water.
And they filled them up to the brim.
8  And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast.
And they bare it.
9   When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10  And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11  This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.
Often when we hear this Scripture preached or teach many times we hear about the conversation, wine, first miracles explanation of third day, why wedding etc… Today I want to look at 3 simple things that may get overlook that may apply to us.
Here we have an event taking place and notice despite all the planning and preparations for maybe over a year, it came up short.
Everyone know how important a wedding and celebration are to a family and community.
How many times in our lives have we planned and made preparation for something and find out we came up short.
We all of human effort we will always come up short.
We are marked with failure due to the fallen nature of the human race.
We think in human terms and experience.
How ever when we “renew our minds” to think in heavenly ways things change.
Isaiah 55:6-11 (KJV)
6  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10  For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)
1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Conformed-to form or mold one’s behavior in accordance with a particular pattern or set of standards
Transformed-to change the essential form or nature of something—‘to become, to change, to be changed into, to be transformed- ‘become completely different’ or ‘become different from what you are.’
Even King David understood that the Human race was a lost cause without the Holy Spirit and the Presence of the Lord.
He stated in:
Psalm 51:10-13 (KJV)
10  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11  Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
The next thing I want you to notice that there were 6 water pots clean and sitting there.
We always hear about the number of pots and the significant s of the water pots.
But let us look at these pots this way, They were clean after the manner of the Jews.
They were sitting there and not being used at that time.
WE don’t know if they were all empty or partly filled with water.
However Jesus decided he wanted to use what was there.
My heart went to
Isaiah 64:8 (KJV)
8  But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
We are so busy trying to explanation to the Lord what we want to be and what we think he should do with us, that we very seldom stop and ask him to make us into what he wants us to be.
We are striving to be something in this world when we should be striving to be what we were created to be in the Heavenly World.
That is what we are fashioned after.
We were made in God’s images not the image of man in this world.
Listen to the Word of the Lord:
Jeremiah 18:6-10 (KJV)
6  O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?
saith the LORD.
Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;
8  If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
9  And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
10  If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
secondly we too many vessels clean but empty, We walk around and hold our selves up and claim we are clean, However when we need to be used we are empty.
We have a form of Godliness but lack the power there of.
What does that mean to us to day we spend all our time “putting on the show” of holiness but never understanding the power of Holiness and right relationship with the Lord.
Or we seek the power of the relationship and not the holiness of the relationship.
WE want all the benefits of the relationship without changes our old ways and transform into the Lord’s way.
Romans 8:5-9 (KJV)
5  For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6  For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
We spend a lot of energy in this world going through the motions of prayer and praise to satisfy the fleshly nature of man.
We are more mindful of the things in the life, trying to satisfy the fleshly habitation on earth.
Don’t get me wrong the Lord wants to bless us in this life and our focus should be in the Life to come.
Where is your heart:
Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV)
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Where is your heart at tonight?
thirdly: Jesus told the servants to fill the vessels with water, We as Christians spend a lot of time fill each other up with our thoughts, ways and words.
We pour into everybody else’s life without even knowing all the details.
We have the answer because we read some book, watch some show or we think we have been through it and we like having all the answers.
Jesus saw 6 vessels clean and told them to fill with water, In the bible water represents the “Word of the Lord” We should be speaking the “ word of the Lord” and fill up everyone life with the word of the Lord and not “word of news channel, twitter, Facebook or even a book or what someone else.
We need to pour into the empty vessel the “Word of the Lord” that can give life to the vessel.
The Lord spoke to my heart one night a few weeks ago and said” You fill the vessel with the word and I will turn it into the wine” You see we are so busy trying to be the wine in someones life when we should be the water(word) in our vessels.
It is not glorious in this world but In the Heavenly it is great.
We like being the wine but really we are just the vessel.
Why do we like being the wine to honest with you the truth is we want to be notice and receive the glory and honor for helping someone.
My friends can I tell you this Our Heavenly Father does not share his Glory with anyone.
If we cannot make it about him and him alone then our hearts are not in the right place.
The bible tells us
James 4:6-10 (KJV)
6  But he giveth more grace.
Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
