We have gathered here today to celebrate a commitment of love, a commitment that Ben and Lauren believe to be the leadership of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Family and friends, thank you for coming and being a part of this special time in their lives today. Let’s ask the Lord to bless this special occasion. Prayer: Dear Lord: We come into your presence with thanksgiving and praise. Thank you Lord for your assurance and guidance in our lives. We are aware that you care about every aspect of our lives, especially our relationships that lead to Christian marriage. Bless then, this special occasion as Ben and Lauren come before You, Lord, and their family, and friends to link their lives together in the ceremony of commitment. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Minister: It is my privilege to ask, “ Who gives this woman to be married to this man?” (Her mother and I do.)
A Christian wedding ceremony finds a great deal of instruction, encouragement, guidance, and admonition in God’s Word.
(Couple moves up to the stage)
In the story of Adam and Eve, the 2nd chapter of Genesis adds insight to the concept of marriage. This chapter tells how the Lord God formed man from the dust of the Earth and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life so that he became a living soul. Then the Lord placed him in the beautiful Garden of Eden. Something, however, was lacking. Man was not complete! Then the Lord God said in Genesis 2:18 “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” The Bible points to one of woman’s important roles, that of a helper to her husband. But woman was not created solely to be man’s subordinate helper. After God decided to make woman, He caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam. God took one of Adam’s ribs, not a part of his head or foot to be ruler or to tample upon her, but from near his heart, of the same substance as man, a coequal, not inferior or superior, but a sharer of life. In the wedding ceremony, with God Himself as the officiating minister, Genesis 2:22 “And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” United with woman, man was now complete and whole! No longer were they two people, but one. Adam even expresses the closeness of their union when he said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman! Jesus underscored the uniqueness of this first marriage and its importance when He stated Mark 10:6-9 “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” The Bible teaches that marriage is to be a permanent relationship of one man and one woman freely and totally committed to each other as companions for life. It is important that your home is built on love. 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” I encourage you to dedicate your home to the Lord. Read His Word together, pray together, attend His church together. I believe that you, Ben and Lauren understand this kind of lifetime commitment as taught in God’s Word.
The Vows (face each other)
You Ben and you Lauren have come to me signifying your desire to be formally united in Christian marriage, and being assured of no legal, moral, or religious barriers to hinder this proper union I ask:
Do you Ben take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife promise to love and cherish her, to honor and sustain her, in sickness and in health, in poverty as in wealth, in the bad that may darken your days, in the good that may lighten your ways, and to be true to her in all things until death alone shall part you?
Do you Lauren take this man to be your lawful wedded husband? Promise to love and cherish him? to honor and sustain him, in sickness and in health, in poverty and in wealth, in the bad that may darken your day, in the good that may lighten your ways, and to be true to him in all things until death alone shall part you?
The Ring Service
Minister: May I have the rings? (Please join hands together)
The ring is a golden circle has no beginning and no end, which sets forth the eternal nature of real love. Rings are exchanged as a token of love and trust. A ring is a symbol and a reminder of the promises made by a married couple to God and to one another, and to the purity of their love.
Will you take this ring, Ben, and place it upon Lauren’s finger and as you do, repeat to her, after me, these words:
Groom: This ring is a token of my love for you. With this ring, I pledge my life and all I have to you, in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Lauren, will you place this ring upon Ben’s finger, and as you do, repeat to him, after me, these words:
Bride: This ring is a token of my love for you. With this ring, I pledge my life and all I have to you, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Minister: May we pray.
“May the Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious towards you; May the Lord lift up His countenance and give you peace. Amen!
And now, having pledged your love and loyalty to each other, and having sealed this pledge with marriage rings, I do by the authority vested in me by the local New Testemant Church and a minister of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the laws of this state pronounce you husband and wife. Ben and Lauren, you are no longer two independent persons but you are now one in the eyes of the Lord. What God has joined together let no man ever seperate. You may now kiss the bride.
I am honored to present to you Mr. and Mrs. Ben Robinson
