Thank You

Fall Festival was a great success—providing much needed laughter, fun, and light for our community and many of you helped make the even a success by dedicating your time, talent, and energy for the evening—thank you

Kassandra/Hector

Kassandra was a BIG help to me for Fall Festival—as well as

Intro:

Colossians 2:6–7 NLT
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Ed: Segway

Is this passage important for the Christian?
How do we put it into practice?

A: Yes, this is important, but I think we can ask another valid question: WHY is this important?

John 14:6 NLT
6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
Negative: Growing number of professing Christians and growing number of personalities that are suggesting that Jesus isn’t the only way.
Nothing we can do apart from Jesus to receive hope/salvation.
Bible is clear —no other way except through Jesus.
How/What do we do?
The verse Hector shared with us this morning provides principles that answer the WHAT do we do question
First:

I. Follow Jesus

What does following Jesus look like?
1 John 2:6 NLT
6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did.
What Jesus tells us to do—we do
We act like Jesus—we talk the way He talked; We go where Jesus went
What does this look like in our home?
In our marriages — treating our spouse the way Jesus treated others—with LOVE and RESPECT.
In fact Paul even tells us in Ephesians 5 how a husband should treat a wife and how a wife should treat her husband.
Basically Paul is saying husbands and wives should have mutual respect and love for each other .
But what if a person is not married?
Second Principle we are going to look at is

II. Go Deep

This thought can be confusing because so often in the Christian world we think “Go Deep” means finding all these mysteries of God. What we end up doing is going off on tangents and getting into false doctrines, taking Scripture out of context and embracing things that simply are not in God’s Word.
Ed—what does this mean within the context of Colossians 2:6-7?
Nourishment
Strength

III. Build Your Life on Jesus

Jesus tells us at the end of Matthew 7:24
Matthew 7:24 NLT
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.
We put into practice God’s Word—what does that look like in the home?
Parents—you are the main discipler /mentor for your children
Paul says in Ephesians 6:4
Ephesians 6:4 NLT
4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Object Lesson
So often there is the tendency to leave discipleship up to the church—which is an obligation of the church—but the main place a child should receive instruction from the Word of God is at home
KIDs—have a responsibility too
Paul says in Ephesians 6:1-3
Ephesians 6:1–3 NLT
1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”

FINAL PRINCIPLE

IV. Overflow with Thankfulness
