Introduction
Sermon text with italics and bold and John 3:16 and v. 20.
Nimrod, The World's First Conqueror
Undoubtedly, Nimrod is one of the most famous and noted descendants of Cush. Very quickly he became known as a mighty hunter before the Lord, according to the record of Scripture. Many were his accomplishments, including the building of several city-states, among the which are Birs-Nimrod, Ninevah, Borsippa, Nimrud of Calah, just to name a few.
- His conquests began, of course, on the plain of Shinar with the building of the famed Tower of Babel; and afterwards, according to Micah 5:6, he moved into the land known as Assyria.
- His name, Nimrod, literally means "let us revolt". And is in keeping with his ungodly and despotic institution of tyrranical governmental rule.
- When Scripture records the story of his exploits, it says of him that he was a mighty hunter before the Lord. And in the context of his hunting prowess, men are the objects and not animals which hint at the fact that he was a hunter of men. And with all of his evil deeds open for all to see and fear, no wonder the Bible says that this is what he was, Before the Lord. In other words, his misdeeds got God's attention.
Why Did They Build?
The Word of God is quite clear in that at this time, men's hearts were full of pride and rebellion against God. It was to celebrate their own fame and resist the purpose of God in commanding them to fill the whole earth. Yet, even with their evil intent and their erroneous ways, they were able to unite behind a common leader who would lead them to success.
THEY UNITED BEHIND A LEADER WHO THEY TRULY BELIEVED IN
And the Scripture tells us the results of this collaboration.....
- Because the people were with one accord and of the same mind and spirit, success was guaranteed.
- This is what is called the POWER OF AGREEMENT!
- And when we learn to get in one mind and one spirit, it will be said of us, too, that nothing shall be impossible unto them.
This Is The Responsibility Of Us All!
Many of us are hung up right here, because we see this as everyone else's work. But it has to be taken personally.
- We should all take pride in this being out church as well.
- It's not jsut Apostle's church, or the Bishop"s church, it belongs to us all.
- And God strengthens us for the work that He has for us to do.
- While we all have expectations of the church, the church should also have expectations of us.
- If we can expect certain things of the church, the church sould be able to expect certain things from us.
Participation Is Required
God never calls us to be a part of something and not support it. For the truth is that it reflects you just as much as anyone else.
- Can't be afraid of a little hard work.
- This is the way the early church operated, they had all things in common, which means that if there was a need in the Body, it was met with the resources of the Body, for everyone took responsibility.
- There was none of that, " That's your job" or "That's your responsibility" it was understood That this is our responsibility".
- So it is with us.
In Comes CONFUSION
Notice that there was no stopping them until there came a confusion.
- And we must be careful not to allow confusion to hinder the intent of our efforts.
- It was confusion that caused them to not understand the needs.
- Which means that we must keep the lines of communication open.
- Everything we do must be with one intent.
A Vision For The Vision
There's Enough Of Us To Get The Job Done
- If we are maintaining with this number of supporters, what could we do with more numbers than this?
- If you notice, the command that rings truer than any other is that we should go and make disciples of all me.
*Which means that the answer to every problem that we face can be answered on some level by obeying that command.
- I want to stay motivated to do what I need to do.
- Stop living for the next few weeks, and live for the next three years.
- Plan now for the next few years.
- There has to be a vision.....
