Galatians 1:1-9: Justification by Faith and Nothing Else.
It is justification by faith and nothing else.
The Gospel.
1. The Preacher of the Gospel (v. 1).
Vv. 15 & 16, Acts 9:6, Acts 22:10, Acts 2:24, 1 Corinthians 6:14.
2. The Proclamation of the Gospel (vv. 2 & 3).
1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Ephesians 2:8, 9, Philippians 4:7.
J. B. Lightfoot: “Grace the fountain of all good things and peace the crown of all blessings.”
The Church is to be salt and light to accomplish the purpose of God.
3. The Power of the Gospel (v. 4).
Romans 1:16.
Verse 4 should be a reminder that God is not interested in improving this world or making men comfortable in it but delivering men from it.
4. The Praise of the Gospel.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, 1 Corinthians 10:31-33.
5. The Perversion of the Gospel.
Romans 5:8, Romans 4:16, Romans 6:23.
6. The Preeminence of the Gospel.
Acts 4:12, John 14:6, John 3:36.
The only Gospel that God approves and blesses is the Gospel of the grace of God, justification by faith in Christ Jesus alone.
We are not saved by making promises to God but by believing His promises.
