Blood

I find myself unwilling to go down the pathway that Halloween might ask me to go. I call this message, Scary Truth, but what is scary about the Gospel? Think for a moment how scary it would be if we had to continue with the Old Testament practice of offering the blood of goats, and bulls. In this passage the Hebrew writer tells us that Jesus appeared as a high priest of good things. 11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Heb 9:11). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
Now do not get confused by this appearing, especially with this season of spooky appearing’s. 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Heb 9:12). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles. In this season of Halloween we often see things appearing as something not real but scary. Securing our redemption is a good thing and Jesus appears as our High Priest to bring us Redemption. The priest who is anointed and consecrated as priest in his father’s place shall make atonement, wearing the linen vestments, the holy vestments. He shall make atonement for the sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the tent of meeting and for the altar, and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.
The Holy Bible: New Revised Standard Version. (1989). (Le 16:32–33). Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers.
The New Revised Standard Version Another Priest, Like Melchizedek

Unlike the other high priests, he has no need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for those of the people; this he did once for all when he offered himself. For the law appoints as high priests those who are subject to weakness, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.

The sacrifices that were offered in verse 13 were offered day 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Heb 9:13–14). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.after day. They atoned but nothing was ever complete.
So, what does this all mean for us today. The scary truth is, 15 Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Heb 9:15). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.
Why is this scary? Perhaps because many do not believe that Jesus died for our sins. Today is the day that you believe and come out of the dark places.
