Chapter 3 Verse 1

Therefore= Paul is continuing his thought from what he just addressed.

A. Knowing that all wisdom is in CHRIST
B. Urging the Colossian Christians to continue in Him
C. Don’t be deceived by vain philosophies (Gnosticism)
D. Don’t live under Jewish Law (Legalism)
*These will result in loss of their rewards

Seeking Spiritual Values (verses 1-4)

Verse 1 speaks of setting our Heart on things above
SET (zēteite) means to seek or strive for earnestly......
Paul is telling them to FIX their attention decisively toward “things above”
*WHY? Christ! He is seated at the right hand of God (Heb 12:2)
This is His seat of Divine Authority because He has defeated the forces of evil and death
Verse 2 speaks of setting our Mind on things above, not on earthly things
Make your priority and concern the eternal things, not the temporary.....
**verse one suggests striving and verse two suggests concentrating
Verse 3
At the moment of Salvation, a Christian died to the evil of the flesh (the sin nature)(Romans 6:3-8)
And in that same moment we our life is HIDDEN with Christ in God!
HIDDEN implies the following:
A. Concealment/Invisibility
B. Safety/Security
**We have been Sanctified and Justified, BUT not Glorified yet. But we are safe and secure in Christ
Verse 4
Christ is our very life! 1 John 3:2

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cshout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.
