Introduction

Recap influence
When I worked at frontier ranch we work some crazy hours to make things perfect in the morning
or kids when they enter a room and you dont see it
it is obvious that something had happened
There has long been a debate in Christian circles on how one is saved. You have full blown calvinists and full blown arminians. While I will never say that these things are unimportant I will say there has been much heart ache and even blood shed over this debate which has hurt the church in many ways.
Here is what I know and what KCC is going to be unapologetic in standing by.
Salvation is provided by God, completed by Jesus, initiated and sealed by the Spirit.
The book of acts is story after story of a beautiful orchestration of the Spirit of God. We could and should never deny this. Your life is no different and tonights story in acts is no different .

26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian t eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28 and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. 29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

At first we see the spirit of God working and giving clear and concise directions to Phillip and obeying.
There is no difference in our duty as believers today to be obedient to the Spirit of God. There are two different directions we receive from God.
broad calling
direct calling
(Examples of each)
Now the second main character of this story is the Ethiopian Eunuch
Not modern ethiopia, most likely cush.
slave from birth and now in high honor with the candace.
he was a treasurer so seen as loyal and trustworthy and synonomous with the word eunuch
He is reading from Isaiah and this should be no surprise. Why? The man was a God-fearer and was on his way to worship in Jerusalem.

EUNUCH
Deut 23:1 “1 “No one who is emasculated or has his male organ cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.”
Isaiah was the one with the promise to the gentile

30 Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

31 “How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32 This is the passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading:

“He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,

and as a lamb before its shearer is silent,

so he did not open his mouth.

33 In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.

Who can speak of his descendants?

For his life was taken from the earth.” x

34 The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” 35 Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

Do you understand (ginoscase) what you do not understand (anaginoscase) play on words
then the ethiopian asks a question that every believer and church should be asking. The disciples needed their eyes open and then went to do the same. We should as well.
sufferring servant. it was about jesus. This was no coincidence. The spirit of God was at work and priming this opportunity.

36 As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” [37] 38 And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40 Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

once again no coincidence. Its not like east tennessee where there is whater at every corner.
Beautiful picture of the freedom of Christ. Earlier we mentioned what stood in his way. Now there is NOTHING. Thats good news
The Spirit concludes and take Phillip away. This wasnt even strange to the eunuch. It was almost expected. There were no cars. The spirit was ready to go.
Phillip continues to faithfully teach
