1 Samuel 17 34-37 “But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!””
When God issues Giant challenges.
We must all agree that we serve a very big God. A being that nothing is impossible. When serving a very big God it seems like he leads us to very big challenges. And that is where David is now. God has lead him to a littleral giant problem. But there are 3 parts of the scriptures that we must look at before we get to Daivd facing his giant.
I. The interest in David
Read the scripture
Aaron has preach about David
The humanity of David. He is not Mosses. He is not on the level of the converted Paul. He is not like Peter after the resurrection. David was not a powerful prophet. And that may be the attraction to David. He was an average Joe with a great rag to riches story. David represents us as flowed people who are still capable of doing extra ordinary things. David is a man who understands how to make mistakes. Just last week Aaron talked about how David could talk himself into doing the wrong things. But it all starts with this scripture. This is the catalyst that launched him to the next level. And it all starts with limitations.
When Samuel was told by the lord to go to Jeese and annoit his son to be the next king Jeese pulls what must be the cream of the crop. And when samel wants to know do you have anyother sons jeese does what I think of as that’s just David. He is not a soilder or Jeese did not see him as kingly. Jeeses put limitations on what he thought Jeesie can do.
Sometimes we can do that as parents. Josiah and football.
Limations on marrrage.
We can also put limations on ourselves. This also means we can t limations on God by limting what he can do with us. I don’t see myself as a preacher because I m not a good speaker.
II. Anointing of David
Play a video of aaron
Sid note
Jeese sends David for his brothers.
It does not matter how you arrive to the battle as long as you are always ready to fight.
David made sure his sheep was taken care of before he left.
During covid churches shut down and we were not able to go to church. Well God provided a safe place for us to worship. A good sheperd always provides for there flock.
III. Others will not believe in your anointing
Closing
Good ness and mercy shall follow me.
It is easy for me to go to the valley because I know who I am following and because of that I know that goodness and mercy is following me. Have you ever went through a storm and looked back and figured out that the only way that you made it was goodness and mercy.
When you step up then you cannot be afraid of the size of the battle because god and sending you.
The reason why David is ready to fight because he knows who is leading him. It is not as hard or scary to face your giants when you know who is in front of you. Then you look back and see what was behind you know that not because of what is in you but because of who is in you. What has to be nderstood is that the blind fold is not so that we cant see. It is so that we can only see what matters. That is the Lord. It was not an easy thing for him to carry another man un real. But when I keep my eyes on the Lord then pain wont destract me. The distance wont matter. All that matters is giving God all that you have. Then when you look back you will do the same thing he did. You will realize that you went further then you every understood. Because when you keep your eyes on the Lord you are then drawing your stenthg from him
Facing giants movie
David knew that it was his time to step up. Even though it looked like he was out matched, outgunned, and way over his head. He still could hear God saying I need somebody to step up.
Facing giants video
I love that movie it is corny and cheesy, but the message is simple and important. I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength. But that part was about focusing on what is important. By blindfolding him he was not able to stop when he felt like he went far enough, and he was not distracted by anything that was around him. That blindfold represents Jesus. When we keep our eyes on him, we are not intimidated by the giants that we must face. There is reason I am not fearing is because I know who is leading to the valley. And when I keep my eyes on him the issues do not bother or distract me. He goes on to say goodness and mercy shall follow me. When I keep my eyes on him I am able to draw strength from him. (im not drawing from whats inside of me but who is inside of me) Then I look back and wonder, “how did I make it?” Goodness and mercy was there. God reveals that he will be king but does not tell him how. I imagine if he told David all that he would go through to become king he might not have accepted it. Aaron God put on your heart to lead, train and educate you family. Pastor your family. You accepted the challenge with ease. But if he would have told you to pastor your entire family, in laws, friend of there family. You would have said I need to do this get this done first. Or you might have been like Mosses and said there are more qualified people then I. So God revealed what he knew you would could wrap your head around but still anointed you for what you are doing know. Sometimes the anointing is bigger then what we cn wrap our head around.
Remember that you were anointed, chosen, and ordained by the Lord. When we remember that it is easier to always stay in His will. And when we are in his will we are safe and we always win.
God is not interested in what you think you cant do. He is looking for people to say whatever you need Lord s me. It is not about logic, or what other people as or think. It is about what I can do for you. Talk about David and the battle and Aaron and the church. The first thing Aaron is going to say is either I need time to get ready or there has to be someone more qualified then me. God is saying I already chose you. I already anointed you I already ordained you for this job. Educated you trained so that you can do the same thing today.

Verse 34-37
32-37
Coaches halftime speech.
That was 19 years ago and I still remember it.
When God issues Giant challenges.
I. The anointing of David
Samuel came to anoint one of Jesses sons and when he Samuel said that he was not there and ask if he had another sone Jesse basically says that is just David. Basically, saying that he is not the cream of the crop. So, he was putting limitations on his kids. I think we can do this at times. This is what happened with my son and playing football.
You can also do it with your spouse
Friends
And with yourself. And when you do it with yourself then you can limit not only what you can do but also what God can do for you and with you.
By taking limits off of yourself is the way you can take limits off of God.
Remember that you are anointed for this. David remembered that he was trained and anointed for this.
just the way Jesse putting limitations on who he's on David was perhaps he thought to leave it was not tall enough David wasn't strong enough he wasn't a natural born athlete so he was no need to be into a conversation of of anointed kings. That wasn't to say that Jesse didn't love him I think we all to a certain extent could put limitations on people you know there was a few years ago where my son wanted to play football I said no because it's just a final sport I was extremely violent person aggressive person and that's why I was so good at playing football what's my aggression My son has no aggression he doesn't have any anger thanks Peter God he is such a nice kid and I said no I don't want him to get hurt so he said well let me give me a chance and we put him out there and the two years that we put him out there every time he got the ball to score almost so of course he was not an aggressive kid but he was so fast and so shifting so quick and because he didn't want to get hit he wasn't going to let no one hit him. There were games where he scored a few quite a few touchdowns. so I was so busy looking at how he wasn't just like me I was missing on how other ways he wasn't like me the good ways. We could also put limitations on our spouse my wife is an accountant I'm the man of the house I should be making all the decisions but my wife is an accountant by me deciding that she's not smart enough to have a say so in the marriage the only thing I'm doing is limitation for how great she is at what she does but I'm also limitating on how great we can be as a team. We can also put limitations on friends our friends comes us and asks us to send advice and we don't see what they're good at and we're going to see it in the then we automatically shut it down. and by creating a habit of putting limitations we also start putting limitations on ourselves I'm too old to start doing this I'm too young to start doing this I can't sing good enough to do this I'm not a great prayer so I can't do it out loud I can't evangelize the other people I can't I can't can't and here's the thing by putting limitations on our self then we tend to put limitations on God because we're putting a limitation on what God can do for us and we're going to repent you've got to move through us we'll put in limitations on what God can do in us and that's how we always end up falling shorter than we're supposed to
II. People are drawn to the anointing
1 sam 16 18
Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him
There are some people that are so impressed with there anointing that they will tell you things until you say that they are anointed.
People close to And a mighty valiant man, and a man of war.—The description of the Bethlehemite David at a mighty valiant man can well be explained from what is related in 1Samuel 17:34-35, about the young shepherd’s prowess in the conflicts with the lions and the bears. A question has, however, been raised respecting the expression “a man of war,” as it would seem from the narrative of 1 Samuel 17 that the combat with the giant Philistine was David’s first great military exploit. It has, however, been suggested that, in addition to the combat with those wild beasts, which we know in those days frequented the thickets of the Jordan, and were a terror to the Israelitish shepherds, David had most likely been engaged in repelling one or more of the Philistine marauding expeditions so common in those wild days. Bethlehem, we know, was a strong place or garrison of these hereditary foes of Israel. (See 2Samuel 23:14; 1Chronicles 11:16.)
Now the word has gotten out about David. People have heard about him and what he can do.
Have you heard about this shepherd boy that can play sweet music, plus he is a mighty warrior, man of war, but he is also a man of good judgement.
I believe that when the anointing was on David people where drawn to who he was.
Because you are anointed God will send people looking for you. Because they need you and your anointing.
III. People close to you will criticize you because of your anointing.
Sam 17 28-32
Davids brother is critsing him and mocking him. Even if those who are close to you know about your anointing does not mean that you will not have to hear them talk about you.
I know when I got saved a lot people close to me did not believe or support me because they could not se me ever changing. God see and knows your name.
People will not agree or are convinced that you are anointed but that does not mean anything.
