The Gospel of God
Four Crucial Questions
1.Who made us, and to whom are we accountable?
We were created by God to know and enjoy him for an eternity.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth....
God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Gen. 1:1, 27).
2.What is our problem? In other words, are we in trouble and why?
We are separated from God because of our sin.
... sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. Rom.5:12
(We) are darkened in (our) understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in (us) due to the hardening of (our) hearts. Eph.4:18
There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understand, there is none who seek after God: Rom.3:10
3.What is God’s solution to that problem? How has he acted to save us from our sin and alienation from Him?
Jesus Christ was sent by the father to die a sacrificial death on my behalf. He bore in his suffering and death the wrath of God that was due to me, that I might be reconciled to God.
... Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring (us) to God 1 Pt.3:18
... when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Rom.5:10
God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them. 2 Cor 5:19
4.How am I to be reconciled to God? How do I come to be included in the salvation God provides? What makes this good news for me and not just for someone else?
Seriously consider this gospel message. Have you sinned? If you answer in an affirmative way you are alienated from the God who created you. Turn from your sin and believe in God and the work that he has done through his son Jesus. He died for my sin in my place so that I might be reconciled to God. He rose from the grave as evidence that he was sent from God for the sole purpose of restoring creation and reconciling men to God! Jesus Christ will come a second time, to save those who have believed in him and judge the world (those who do not believe) according to their sin.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him. John 3:36
We might summarize these four major points like this: God, man, Christ, and response.
*God is holy, he created us to enjoy unfettered communion with him.
*We have sinned against him and violated our most sacred covenant, and we are culpable for our sin.
*Jesus has come to reconcile us to God.
*We must believe in this most glorious message of God's good news and commit ourselves wholeheartedly to him.
