Have you ever blamed someone else for something that happened to you?
Have you ever blamed someone else for something that happened to you?
Here we have Adam and Eve and we all know the traditional Bible story. God created them in his image.
He created the entire earth with the purpose of mankind to rule over it.
But that is about as far as things got before the situation got tricky.
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
So guys we see in verse one that the devil was subtil
Can anyone tell me what it means that he was Subtil?
One of the meanings for that word means as a midst.
so imagine something that is there but you usually don’t notice it.
If i were to lay a pen on the table before you came in and no one was close to it.
Then when we left I texted you and said “hey, did you see that pen on the table”
most of you would first off think I was crazy but most of you wouldn’t see it.
Now just because you didn’t see the pen does that mean it wasn’t there?
See now when the Bible says that satan was subtle it is saying that he was there and he was crafty and sly
So he knew how to make himself appear as not being a threat or not being something that could cause harm
He says to Eve
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Yet Eve did
She ate the fruit that God had commanded her not to eat
And here she was, disobedient toward the one who created her.
Here we have found it this early into creation
Sin has entered the world
Sin is now an issue.
So eve went a step farther, she gave of this fruit to Adam.
Adam found it good to eat also
Have you guys ever been offered something to eat that you didn’t want?
What did you do?
In Adams situation he was offered something that he knew God had commanded that he not eat.
Yet he ate of it.
Its a little thing many of us know as peer pressure
Eve ate of the fruit so now Adam ate of the fruit
In verse 6 Eve gives Adam the fruit and he eats
So now that they have both eaten of the fruit sin had officially entered mankind
Because of this we see that we to are flawed humans
See Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world without any trouble but their failure to maintain obedience caused sin
Which is the same thing we fall into today.
in verses 9-10 we hear from the Lord
And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
So Adam was caught dead in his tracks
and in verse 11-12 the scripture says this
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
So Adam chose an easy excuse to try to cover his guilt
He said “the woman made me do it”
It was the best he could come up with
The woman responded in a similar matter in v13 by sayin g
And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
So the woman blames the serpent
Neither of the them acknowledged that it was by their own inability to have self control
So today sin is in this world because the original humans had no self control
I ask you today, have self control and take blame for your sin
We are all sinners and we are not perfect but in order to receive Gods grace and have forgiveness for that sin we must acknowledge that we have failed.
We are sinners in need of hope through Jesus Christ!
We can only get that hope when we admit to our sins.
